SI Addiction Help

I have self injured on and off for the past 14 years and have attributed my last 5 years of SI to my ups and downs of substance abuse. I have recently entered recovery for amphetamine addiction and thought my SI issues would have went away with me recovery. I’ve stayed sober for the past sixth months, but not SI free. Can anyone share tips on how to stay safe in recovery?

Hi, welcome to RYL. Very well done with being sober for 6 months. It might be hard to tackle both addiction and self harm at the same time since I'm guessing lots of things might be coming up for you now that you're sober so try not to be harsh with yourself if you don't manage to stop self harming right away. What things cause you to self harm? Are there particular emotions or situations? Maybe if you can identify them you can look at other ways to manage.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

Don't try to calm the storm, calm yourself, the storm will pass.

You didn't come this far just to come this far.
