SI Question - How painful is it to...

Has anyone had to have a wound re-opened to be packed with iodine, then go back a couple of days later to have anaesthetic in the wound and it be stitched? (generaly this is done because a wound is left too long before being seen to)

Just i have to go back and get the anaesthetic and stitches tomorrow. They said it will be very painful and i will have to lay still for an hour.

sorry

I haven't had it done but I have had wounds packed with iodine soaked dressing things whilst transferred to a different hospital and I have had stitches many times before. I always thought when they actually put the iodine in the wound that it stung a lot more than the stitches and anaesthetic. The needle hurts a little but it just feels like a scratch really. If you are worried about the pain could you maybe take a couple of painkillers just before you have it done? The local anaesthetic should numb it whilst they are doing it but it may be sore afterwards.

It shouldnt hurt to much as they will give you an injection to stop the pain,
im also going to move your thread to SI discussion as i thnk you will get a better response.
good luck

the iodine is far more painful that the stitches as I remember...
it feels a little "odd", but not properly painful until an hour or so afterwards... but even then it's not TOO bad... it's more nerve racking and scary than anything to be honest...

i'm sure you'll be fine :)

Well, it went okay...
i have to go back for it to be checked as it still managed to get a infection in it- although i have antibiotics too. It was painful, though i think the most upsetting thing for me was laying still for a hour knowing that i was wasting someones time when they could have been helping a more worthy patient when im sure the wound would have been fine by itself!
But anyway, its done...still sore but thats to be expected i guess. And yet it still didn't stop me from doing it again...
:(
Thanks for all your replies and concern
