I am currently:
Panic Attacks - Help


Just wondering how to deal with panic attacks. Usually can calm myself concentrating on breathing etc but currrently struggling and don't know what to do.

I am currently:

Hold a PAPER bag over your mouth and nose. If you are hyperventilating then breathing in carbon dioxide will help slow your breathing down. And while you are doing that try to relax and distract yourself from whatever has made you feel so panicy

The thing is, I know it is just a panic attack and I will be able to regain control but it doesn't make it any easier at the time : (

I am currently:

When I had panic attacks I found the book Panic Attacks by Christine Ingham and the organisation No Panic really helpful. I do still have panic attacks but less than I did. The book and No Panic really helped me understand what was going on. Might be worth you giving it a try too?

I've suffered from panic attacks since the age of 15. I'm 20 now.

The best thing that I've found that works is putting my head down, like on a table, so that it is under your heart and take deep steady breaths. Don't think about anything, just focus on breathing. If that doesn't work, I always have a paper bag handy for emergencies.

I also find drinking too much caffiene can set off an attack. As a rule, I try to avoid it.
