Eating Disorder - Chest Pains?

I purge quite often, but today especially I've been getting chest pains..
It's like an ache which feels as though it's around my heart area, it doesn't seem to be going & it kinda worries me.

Sorry if this is a pointless thread?

Hey honey,

I'm not sure how to explain this, but basically I think it could be a combination of chest pain and anxiety. Anxiety flares up when a big change happens in your life... has anything big happened recently? I know that when I get anxious, I get pains in my chest that don't seem to go away, even when I take pain medication.

I would suggest trying to do some deep breathing (close your eyes, lie down and relax and breathe in and out), and get a good night's sleep and take some paracetamol, maybe. Basically, I think that you are anxious and anxiety does make physical symptoms worse. However, with your purging I would also be concerned about the chest pains, which could actually be there without the anxiety. If they haven't gone away overnight, I'd suggest getting checked out or ringing NHS Direct.

Thank you for the reply. :)
I guess I linked it to the purging as it began after I had purged this evening.

I don't feel particularly anxious right now, but then I may just not be aware of it, I am really scared & such about a combination of things..
Yes many things have happened, so I'm not sure :/

I will get a good sleep, see if it goes. :)
xx

Anxiety can build up without you realizing it, hun. If you don't feel any better after sleeping, then tomorrow it might be best if you get checked out. Chest pains should always be checked out by a doctor if they are prolonged and don't go away after a while =] xx

Still aching a bit. Not purged today as of yet, trying not to, seeing if this is gonna go or if it is anxiety.
It's on the right top side of chest now

Okay honey I suggest you get medical help as soon as possible, the chest pain seems to be linked with the purging. Does it feel like a burning pain, because it could also possibly be heartburn?

Could you ring NHS Direct or go to A+E tonight, or make an emergency appointment with your GP tomorrow morning? They'll probably tell you to go to hospital anyway but you may find it easier to talk to them about it first.

I'm not trying to be mean here but I advise you to go to A+E because prolonged chest pain is extremely dangerous. Any pain in the chest area needs to be checked out, to eliminate serious problems such as a stroke/heart attack etc. Not trying to alarm you but I'm not sure whether you can get serious problems like that from EDs, so it WOULD be best to get checked out.

I know how hard it is though. If you really can't get checked out, could you tell somebody instead or maybe bring somebody along for support?

It's just advisable to go, sooner rather than later.

Chest pain has the potential to be very serious, please get yourself to a doctor.

What do you mean by 'on a break'?

Chest pain is serious enough for you to go to any Drs, even if not registered with them. There is a chance that your purging has put pressure on your heart, especially as you say it has increased in rate when you are purging.

It may also be that you have strained a muscle or your diaphram from purging.

Only a Dr can check these things out for you and let you know what the best course of action would be. As it has been persistant, (your original post was on 19th of the month, so it has been present for a few days) I would advise seeing someone as soon as you can - Even while on your break.

Be gentle with yourself.

I'm with my aunt down in London, she knows I was previously anorexic but thinks I'm over it, & have been eating kinda normal here, not purged (well tiny bit today) but I'd rather not tell her, and I couldn't go without her knowing.
I don't wanna jeopardise going to uni in just over a weeks time..

I can go next Monday though:/
xx

I think that is a good idea considering that the chest pains have been there, and gradually getting worse, for a while now. You could always just tell your Aunt that you have chest pains, you don't have to link them to your eating disorder, you could also ask the doctor at A+E/wherever you go not to mention your eating disorder to her? You're over the age of confidentiality, so if you asked the doctor not to mention it he wouldn't be allowed to. x

I'm not gonna be able to go tonight.
I really can't.
I'm gonna go to sleep now, I am gonna not purge..try not to at least

I don't know what to do, it's such a stupid situation
I know I can get a sameday appointment when I get home but that's not until Monday ....3 days ..I'll be okay I guess

Sorry I'm so stubborn, but really on this situation, what with me going to uni next week the last thing that needs to happen is my family being worried.. I'm "recovered" to them & even if I lied and told the Dr to be confidential I couldn't think of a good excuse ...
