What've you got planned today? Maybe keeping busy will help? As long as it's not stressful stuff of course.

Hi Beckie,

Re your reluctance to ask your questions at college; I am also doing a college course (Maths teaching specilist course), where everyone is a maths graduate apart from me and one other person. They are also all doing their PGCEs alongside the maths course. They have a lot of input from their PGCE tutor so when it comes to writing case studies, reflective journals and such (ugh) they are all a step ahead of me.

I last studied when I did my PGCE 17 years ago (Fuck, I'm old!) when it was done very differently. I am behind with my studies because of not wanting to ask questions that everyone else seemed to know answers to.

At the last class before the Christmas break I made sure to arrive early, before any of the other students and finally plucked up the courage to tell the tutor that the reason she has no work from me is that I don't know how to write the the sorts of pieces the course requires. I asked her for a few pointers on what sort of thing to include, and she was soooooo helpful. Didn't bat an eyelid, just explained and let me ask questions. She didn't make me feel any less for asking, she just wanted to help.

Is it possible for you to see your tutor privately? make an appointement? get in early?

I'm a tutor myself for Functional Skills and it dawned on me after I spoke to my tutor; she wants the same as I do, the same as pretty much every tutor wants - her students to do well and pass the course. I'm quite sure that if you approached your tutor they would feel the same.

If you were my learner/ student, I would want to help as much as I could. Not only because I care about my students, but also because my professional standing, pay rises and promotion prospects are reflected in my "success rates".

I hope this is reassuring , and that you can find a way to talk to your tutor.

Shrimps x

Very well said there, Shrimpy.

I also want to touch on college a bit. I've seen college counsellors before too and one in particular spoke to my tutors about certain projects I was really worried about and made special arrangements to help me get through it. So if you don't feel like talking to your tutors I'm sure the counsellor will be able to help as well.

If watching Disney is helpful then do it. It's ok not to do something productive all the time. If you think it would make you feel better to do something productive though then maybe set yourself a small goal if you can.

Thanks for asking Shrimps

I've been struggling quite a bit but trying to stay distracted. I didnt get up until quite late because it was hard to sleep.
I might be going out with the family tomorrow before clozapine clinic so I hope we manage to do that.
It would be something to look forward to

Sorry it's taken a while for you to get a reply to this. How are you doing now? It's more than ok for you to bump this if you need support, you're worth it. What's making things so difficult for you right now?

I know that feeling, sometimes there are only a few words you can use to explain things. Try and do plenty of things that do make you feel good. Hope things improve soon. Please post here if you need to and you can always PM me if you like.

Thank you for asking Aubergine

Im ok I think.
Although my mum said I looked ill and depressed.
Even though I made an effort to look presentable.
She's usually pretty good at noticing stuff as obviously she was there through the whole time when I was really unwell.
I still can't sleep even though I'm really tired.
I'm not really sure how things are.
Not looking forward to college starting because I can't see me getting up so early

Mums, eh? Mine seems to have some kind of magical powers when it comes to my mental health too! Now that she's notices something, do you think you would be able to open up to her a bit about how things are for you at the moment?

I can understand your worries about getting up for college; it's a nightmare when you can't sleep and have to be out of the house early. Do you have anything prescribed for sleep? I'm wondering if something short-term might be helpful. Being sleep deprived is really not going to be helping how you're feeling, so getting some decent rest might be a good start to getting things back on track for you. When do you next see a doctor?
