Rydon Taunton

I'm going to be transferred to Rydon Ward in Taunton next week. I was placed on section three 6 weeks ago and have gained enough weight to be out of serious danger, but my weight has come to a standstill and not gone up much since coming off the NG tube. Despite how far I've come, my 24 he obs are stricter and my ED consultant thinks my weight progress isn't fast enough so she's sending me from Musgrove Hospital to Rydon next week, regardless. I've heard so many bad things about it there. Has anybody been there with an eating disorder and found it helpful. What's it like there. What do they do. I'm scared and I feel what's the point of continuing my good efforts here whilst I'm going there regardless!! Any words of reassurance? I'm desperately worried!

Sorry, I've just replied to one of your older threads without seeing this one!

Again, I'm afraid I don't have any experience of that particular ward but I just wanted to say that the point of continuing your good efforts where you are currently is because "if you're not recovering, you're dying". I'm sorry they don't seem to be acknowledging your efforts but that doesn't mean you should stop trying. I guess even if you feel this week effort won't get you anywhere in the short term, not trying this week and losing weight just gives you more weight to gain back so in the long term recovery takes longer. If that makes sense?

Communicate as best you can and keep trying. That's the only way out of this.

My husband has been there for his mental health problems. It’s a nice ward and he found that it was one of the better wards that he has been to. He has said that they do individualise the care and found it helpful compared to wards in London. He said though that was a few years back but it may of changed since. It’s a mixed wardwell two mixed wards. It’s a nice ward. I hope you’re doing okay Direct message me if you want more info. Good luck.

My consultant is planning to transfer me to an eating disorder specialist unit despite all my efforts. Things seem to just get worse and it'll be worse for me to go somewhere so far away from home. Plus she's based this decision on complete false info about how I've been on this ward which is unfair. I have no choice as I'm on section 3. It'll probably be Haldon in Exeter. What's the point of me trying when she keeps getting harsher on me. I wish I was dead. I'm sick of this illness and after 26 years it's going to be hell and I just want to go home....

I'm sorry that your consultant seems to be being unhelpful and that you will be far from home. All you can do is work with the team at the eating disorder unit as best you can so you have a chance at a life without an ED.
