Do you say self harm or self injury?

I say both just in different contexts. I use the term "self harm" when talking in person on on the phone but when it comes to the internet or instant messengers I use the abbreviation "SI".

I usually use the term Self Harm in conversation
but since using this site I've been using the term Self Injury
but usually this is when I'm writing I tend to write SI
rather than Self Injury or Self Harm.

I find Self Injury to be more of an American Term for some reason

Uhm, I say self harm, even though the technical word for what I do is self injury, I just find it less of a mouthful/easier for other people to understand.

I don't generally use either but in 'official' conversation, as it were, I use Self-Harm because I find it more relatable

I always say self harm and on here just say SH. My social worker last week used the term 'self cutting' which I've never heard before. I thought it was a bit strange, not sure why though. Maybe just because it was a new term.

Im norwegian, so I use the norwegian word which can be translated to both self injuring and self harming i guess. But when im on here i usually just write SI.

i use self injury and abbreviate it to SI. in my research paper my teacher told me to keep one and use it throughout..but i had to use self-mutilation..and that is my least favorite term for it like it pisses me off.

I think self-harm is a more 'general' word that encompasses (sp?) all forms of harming oneself, where as self-injury is a bit more specific. That's how I read it anyway but have confused myself now with too many terms!
