How to handle going to a shrink
Sorry to waste everyone's time, however, I have a quick question. I have finally called to set up an appointment with a psychiatrist, however I am terrified that I will go and shut down mentally... like just sit there with a smile lying and saying that everything is fine. I am the queen of hiding emotions. I don't know what to do...
Thanks

"Pain, you just have to ride it out, hope it goes away on its own, hope the wound that caused it heals. There are no solutions, no easy answers, you just breath deep and wait for it to subside. Most of the time pain can be managed but sometimes the pain gets you where you least expect it. Hits way below the belt and doesn't let up. Pain, you just have to fight through, because the truth is you can't outrun it and life always makes more."

I know that the first appointment can be pretty scary, but try to relax. You're doing the right thing by going. Just be as honest as you can be.

First appointments are hard. Just relax as Snickers said and just tell the truth. Shes only there to help you.

If you think you wont be able to tell them the truth when you meet them write it down beforehand on a piece of paper. That way if you freeze up you can just show it to them.

Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money.
They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with.
Some men just want to watch the world burn.

yeh, try writing it on paper. At first I thought the psych would think I was really wierd if I did that, but when I went and just clammed up, they actually suggested writing it down beforehand to me.
Anyway its great you got your first appointment this is a big step forward, well done, and good luck xx

In addition to what anyone said, do wear comfortable clothes. Nothing worse than fiddling and twitching because your trousers (or other part of your clothing) is digging in.
