Skin picking *not sure where to put this*

I literally can't seem to stop picking my skin- mainly my face, books, thighs and bum cheeks. It's so sore. I hate it, I look and feel a mess. Sometimes I don't realise I'm doing it and when I do I'm finding it hard to stop. Can start as a small spot, something tiny and it just grows. It's been going on for so long but I've had enough. Does anyone else have experience of this? Does anyone have any strategies I could use?

I'm the same, for me it's a stress related thing but it becomes obsessive. It's called Dermatillomania. There are support groups etc on Facebook that can be helpful.

I can't really say anything that I find helpful, to be honest, I'm in the same boat, but you're not on your own.

Now I'll play your ghost as my ace, whenever I'm led astray.
But I am actually good, can't help it if we're tilted.
I'm in my right place, don't be a downer.

My scalp is a mess with picking at it. I know what you mean about it becoming automatic and you don't realise you're doing it some of the time. I'm not sure of what might be helpful though. Have you tried fidget toys or something like that? Do you know why you are picking at your skin?

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

Don't try to calm the storm, calm yourself, the storm will pass.

You didn't come this far just to come this far.

I'm not sure really. If there is a spot or scab I can't leave it alone. It's ridiculously frustrating. I sometimes manage to stop myself doing it by keeping my hands busy but I do it as soon as I put whatever down. It's itchy and sore. Thanks for replying both.

I think a lot of people are tempted to pick scabs and spots but when you keep doing it they get bigger and more painful and it's easy to start on another area. Do you use any creams to soothe your skin?

I don't use any creams at the moment. Doc seems to think it's acne despite me explaining it and has prescribed me numerous potions for it which haven't helped. I literally look a mess so going to have to shovel on make up this weekend as I'm at a hen do. Hoping that different environment might help distract me. I need to write a plan to deal with it and or buy some mittens to wear in the house! Thanks for replying. X

It's so hard because I think it's maybe like a compulsive behaviour which is difficult to stop. Mittens may be a good idea but I think I would just end up taking them off! I try to wear long sleeves to avoid seeing potential places on my arms to pick. Hope you enjoy the hen do.
