SI Question - "electric shocks' in old scar...?
Not sure how to explain this very well but I have a scar on my wrist that I get sort of 'electric shocks' in if I touch it or even if something like my sleeves just brush against it. I can feel the 'shocks' running up into my thumb. The actual scar and some of the skin around it is numb but the 'electric shock feeling' is really weird/painful and I'm not sure what to make of it..
I needed stitches in the original cut..and internal stiches too and I thought it was just a bit of nerve damage that would ease off once it was properly healed but it's been about 6 months now and no change..
So anyway I was wondering if there's anything I can do to help this? Is it likely to go away?
Thank you..

MMmmm, hello, i am sorry i dont really know what this is all about but I think that you should go and have it looked at by your doctors.
i hope that things get better, and i am sending you hugs.
Take care and go get it checked out.

I sounds to me like nerve damage. If it was done some time ago then there may be little a doctor can do; once its been done a few days then a doctor can often do little to help. If however it is really bothering you or affecting the movement then I'd speak to a doctor about it, they may need to give you meds if it is painful or scan it and see if there is any compression of the nerve rather than its structure that has been damaged; this may be improved by surgery.
There generally isn't anything you can do; if nerves don't start to heal ASAP after they are damaged then they don't; this long after then there is v. little chance. Generally nerves only heal as soon as they are damaged and though healing can begin up to around 72hours after.
If you suspect you may have damaged nerve tissue at another point it is a good idea to go to hospital ASAP, trying not to move the area of the body from when you cut to when you get assesed (to keep the edges of the nerve as close together as possible); bandaging may help with this. Then tell the doctor all your symptoms regarding the wound and then they might be able to help recover any nerve damage.

Thank you Animad and Jen too.. :)
That helps...at least I know it's probably just something I'll have to live with and take care not to go there again..
