I am currently:
muslims in hospital.

theres a link to the article here
but ill paste a bit of it.

Overworked nurses have been ordered to stop all medical work five times every day to move Muslim patients’ beds so they face towards Mecca.

The lengthy procedure, which also includes providing fresh bathing water, is creating turmoil among overstretched staff on bustling NHS wards.

But despite the havoc, Mid- Yorkshire NHS Trust says the rule must be instigated whenever possible to ensure Muslim patients have “a more comfortable stay in hospital”.

And a taxpayer-funded training programme for several hundred hospital staff has begun to ensure that all are familiar with the workings of the Muslim faith.

Do you think this is valid? or should NHS staff be focusing on all patients equally?

i mean, i know everyone has a right to their faith, but i just think that this is, not a waste of time, i just think that already overworked staff are going to really struggle if this becomes compulsary.. or, they will have muslim only wards which will be unfortunate when they are aready struggling to find beds.

what do you think?

In all honesty, i think it's ridiculous, nurses have enough to do without having to move there bloody bed to face this mecca.
It's bloody stupid.

It's so easy to get lost in constantly having to present
whatever face you believe a person wants to see rather than your own

i dont think this is reasonable or feasible. now, i must stress that i am not making a racist comment here, but i think we are accommodating enough of the muslim faith, and its getting to the point where i feel it is now being forced upon us and i dont like it.

It's their faith, I think it's perfectly fine.

It's their faith, but surely the nurses should be saving lives and not moving beds?

Is it too much/too selfish to ask people to stop posting religion-related debates?

but what if on an already understaffed nurse, they were prevented from carrying out procedures on a patient who then died because there were no staff because they were busy moving beds.

Im training to be a nurse, im doing it because i want to provide medical care to people. theres already too much paper work involved now a days. let alone moving beds.

the families could come in, but then their are probably tonnes of health and safety rules about unauthorised persons moving hospital equipment.
and, the families would have to pray there too.

People should be free to practice whatever faith they want, but that doesn't mean that other people should have the responsibility to help them practice it....that's just my two cents.

sorry, its just something thats relevant to me, and i wanted some other opinions, and like, it was in the news, and i thought this forum was for this kind of stuff.

i didnt post it for the religious elements, more the 'is it any wonder the nhs is in such a state when nurses are asked to do things that take them away from their jobs' kind of debate.

Well I hate to sound mean but this is like...an open forum...so I think people should be allowed to debate whatever they want. If some people aren't comfortable with debating religion, then they could just stay away from those threads.

The rules just say that you can't overly push any religious belief, or make offensive comments. So I think this thread is okay.

i'm pretty sure N&D was made to be able to bring in politics & religion into it?

Surely they do not need nurses to do this, the hospitals could employ someone else to take care of this, while the nurses get on with their work.

However, then you have the problem of tax payers funding a position specifically designed to help one religion, and i could see people getting upset at that to.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,

And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.
