Haven't been through anything but I would consult a lawyer. They could give you the proper advice and tell you how things would happen.

I reported historical abuse and my case did not work out to well.
don't let this put you down though. I advise that you talk things over with your counsellor first as the results of abuse cases vary from person to person especially when it is a historical case.

I reported childhood sexual abuse about two years ago. First I consulted a lawyer who told me to contact the police in that state. Then I made a police statement in that state, then was referred to sex crimes unit, then was interviewed, then was given the option of making a tapped phone call because of lack of any physical evidence since I obviously wasn't three anymore. I opted to make the phone call, was given no coaching on what to say or how to steer the conversation, and they wanted me to try to get him to meet up with me and wear a wire, but it never got that far. They called him in, asked him questions, then let him think about doing a computer voice stress analyzer. After considering it, he came in and said no to the two questions they asked him and he got away looking like the good guy and I got treated like the criminal.
