Just a distraction idea during isolation

I know a lot of people are struggling at the moment with uncertainty and reduced mental health support. So I thought a nice distraction might be to write cards or letters of support for our MH professionals. Not only might it give us an activity, but it might also help boost their morale .

I think my CPN is sick of getting cards from me, I thank her for every little thing regularly! It's a really nice idea though.

That’s awesome Auror! And Lindsey, I’m sure they’re not- cards are always nice
To receive! If you didn’t want to write to your CPN or ex ward etc though but did want to use the principle as a suggestion, I’ve seen a few groups on fb like ‘postcards of kidness’ You could get involved in (and it’s a one off or as much or as little as you want). Was just an idea anyhow

I wrote a card for my local chemist, forgot to give them it this morning. Do you think they'll accept it though?

It's worth asking! If not, maybe you can take a picture and show it to them that way?

They said of course I could give them a card and were very smiley and grateful.

Will probably write one to the ward. My CPN is working from home so can't write one to her.

You could always write one for your CPN and give it to them when you see them next, even if it isn't for a while. Or mail it to their office and see if they are able to pick it up there.

Glad you could give one to the chemist!

I know that medical professionals really appreciate the cards at any time. My cousin qualified as a paramedic a few days ago but prior to that he was working as an ambulance technician. He got at least 8 thank you letters from his ambulance service because patients wrote to the ambulance service praising him. He used to post them on Facebook because he was dead chuffed. Of course this was prior to the current situation so it would be even more appreciated now. He is one of the few people who know irl that I am a SIer and was generally supportive.

such people as your cousin are worth gold. They always were, but people started to realize this only now. I always said - why do footballers receive millions while doctors only a few grands and a "thanks"? Now, what are footballers worth?

want banana pancakes so bad right now...

Do you think it would be ok to send a parcel to my local ward? Just with a jigsaw, some books, and some craft stuff in it?

Is there a way to ask first? Some places aren't allowed to accept outside items right now, but that's a super thoughtful idea.

I guess I'd need to phone them. I worry about phoning them when they're really busy though and they seem to be busy all of the time.

They know how to manage their time. If they're too busy to answer, they won't.
