I'm scared and in pain

Feels like I'm being repeatedly punched in the belly specifically in the ovary it's painful and I'm bleeding between periods yet again and I'm scared of what might b wrong with me. My gp is aware I bleed between periods tho and seems unconcerned I've had a smear n that came back normal. Painkillers are starting to work a bit now I just feel bruisey n tender still scared tho why is it happening n also will it affect my chances of having children one day

Is it possible to ask for a referral to a gynecologist? That's not normal and unfortunately a lot of doctors dismiss period related pains and issues but it seems worth looking into to me, it may be possible to get some relief

Thanks. Possibly I could it's whether they'd let me n also I know that most gynaecologist s around my way are male I think there is literally one female if feel more comfortable with a female. Was wondering if I could have an ultrasound I know there often used for pregnancy but they are also a useful diagnostic tool.

It's worth asking your GP and having a discussion if it's causing you so much worry and distress. If you feel like your GP isn't doing the right thing is there another GP you could see for a second opinion? I hope you can get some answers and some relief.

I'd echo one_step_closer on everything - I think it would be totally reasonable to ask for a second opinion.

I also totally understand why you wouldn't want a male and why you would feel more comfortable with a female. I'm the same. I mostly suggested it as most GPs around me don't have much training in menstrual or reproductive system issues but that absolutely is not always the case, some GPs are really good with that stuff and hopefully you can get a second opinion from one who will take you seriously.

Also, I just want to reassure you a bit - while what you're experiencing isn't normal, it's not totally uncommon either (it's actually really common for people to have issues with their period and not even know it's an issue because we're taught to just grin and bear it and it's not something we talk about much with others so it's difficult to compare experiences) and doesn't necessarily mean anything is seriously wrong. I had similar pain and irregularity and also extremely heavy bleeding with my periods and for me it was helped simply by going on birth control to help regulate it. I'm not saying that's the solution for you - but what I'm trying to say is I think there's a really, really good chance you can get some relief from this. Best of luck!

How do you feel about that? Are you comfortable enough with your GP?

I'm glad you have a good relationship with your GP. I hope everything goes ok and you can get some answers and treatment. How are you feeling now?

It must be such a relief to be in less pain. Are you managing your worries ok?

Scared sh*tless to be honest all sorts is running thru my head including the idea of what if I'm pregnant which is a ridiculous thing to think coz unless it's an immaculate conception I can't be. Sadly the heart still wants what it wants.

*hugs if ok* I hope it goes well tomorrow. Having so many things going through your head must be distressing and exhausting.

I trust my gp and she's female so I don't feel the need for a chaperone but appreciate the thought, thanks.

I often wonder why there's no gynaecologists that r female or rather very few I am wondering if it's because as a woman u know what it feels like which may make it harder to do the job as a professional woman xx wish there where more females it would be helpful. Its a problem that's been happening for several years
