Broken finger?

I think I've broken my finger. I've had a ring on it continuously for five years and have put weight on and had kind of grown around it, anyway I forced it off. Right away my finger swelled up huge. I can't bend it and it's badly bruised and misshapen. The pad at the tip has gone mottled purple.
I put ice on it but it hurt.
Can a Dr even do anything for a broken finger? Is it worth getting checked?
Advice would be fab. And I'm sorry to post so much. I'm very accident prone !

Yes, they can do things for a broken finger and, if needed, they can operate on it to correct the position and not only that but they can correct the position, if it's not too bad and needs correcting, often whilst you're awake. They can also use different types of bandaging and even casts at times to ensure it remains in the right position. Therefore, if you have any suspicions that it may be broken then you should go and see a doctor, ideally at either a Minor Injuries Unit, Urgent Care Centre or A&E. A GP can also assess it and send you for an X-ray and further treatment fitted feel it is appropriate too.

Glad it's sorted. Get it checked out again if there's increased swelling in it or it becomes numb. I'm sure they've told you more things to keep an eye out for but without knowing exactly what was done I can't really say.
