Becoming a Nurse... any advice and support appreciated!

I am starting an access to higher education, the course is called 'Access to Nursing and Health Professions' in the college next to me. I am wondering if anyone out there on RYL is a nurse/studying to be one? I want to be an anaesthetic/theatre nurse, nope didn't know how to spell that *makes note to learn how to spell anaesthetic*.

I am excited about starting the course (as it's only on a Monday, Thursday and Friday so not too hectic for me) and would welcome any support or advice you guys have to offer me.

I myself am not doing it, but Lotti (pretty delinquent) has signed up to do something similar if I remember correctly.
There are a couple of people on the site who are studying to be nurses, maybe its worth a rummage around in old posts to see who? I think someone mentioned they were in the mental health forum.

my nan and aunty are both nurses, due to that alot of their friends are nurses they all said to me "don't" they love their jobs but not one of them would reccomend it to anyone. must be a reason. Their all stressed constantly and drink alot of wine.

I think it's great you've decided to do this course Alyssa, once I've finished my access course I want to go on to do mental health nursing. I know I haven't exactly given any advice here but good luck! I think it's an excellent start to being a nurse xxx

Oh yay I am glad I have found someone who is going through the same thing as moi. I am so excited about starting the access to HE course and really hope I get accepted, I have already applied and have planned out how I am going to pay for the course (with DLA that I get) so hope that I will get an interview through soon.
I was extremely interested in the MH nursing but I thought it best that it wasn't for me it would probably just bring back horrible memories for me that I want to forget. Good luck for you too. I think we'll do brilliantly. xx
