YESYESYES I had an ocd moment a while ago and made 50 paper cranes in one go. It took ages. Then I stuck them on my wall. Theres about 6 left on there though.
I make dinosaurs though, amongst other things :)

Wow, you are really good!

I used to get Origami sets from a certain auntie every year when I was little but I always just used the paper for other stuff. Now I am tempted to try it. Where's the best place to start? Is there a beginner's set or book?

Best place is here:

www.youtube.com

:-P
The thing about video's is you can actually see someone doing it, instruction guides tend to use origami terminology that leave you screaming "WHAT THE **** IS A PETAL FOLD?!?!". Plus some of them start off with "fold a bird base" or something of the like which is just not a good place to start.

Here's something simple for you:

Not how I would have gone about explaining it, but the guy explains what he's doing in depth and slowly. Make use of the pause button!

Then just go though making different models and eventually you will learn different bases and folds.

Thanks for that. I think that the whole terms thing is what made me just use the paper for other stuff when I was young. I'm going to give this a go at the weekend.

Had a **** weekend so haven't gotten around to trying this. I am only working part-time this week so bumping the thread to remind me to try it.

Oooooh, the Gecko. Took me a while to work out what you were saying there Cat. People seem to like the Gecko, I've made a couple for people at work. Pretty much everyone has a piece of my origami and for a long time there was a humming bird on show behind the bar before someone nicked it. But there is still a humming bird in the office blue tacked to the computer.
They're also in a cafe in my town. The owners use them to keep kids entertained. It's all good advertising.

I didn't take a picture of my latest peice but I shall get one before I never see it again and show you.
I'm also making a bunch of them to be sold for charity over the bank holiday weekend for Breast Cancer Research.

Here's another simple bit of origami though:

It's a little more difficult this time as it's ery easy to rip the paper. I would use normal printer paper if I were you.
