Charities!

Hello I made this thread last year but then worried that I just looked like an entitled knob but let's try again.

I'm obnoxiously rich so I'm looking for a new one or two charities to support and I kind of already give to the ones 'close to my heart' so I would love to be able to support charities that are important to my friends and so here we are. Recommend charities that you know do good work plz!

I would post report myself to check I don't sound hideously smug but the only person reading the post reports is me so that's the end of that.

I like to support my local air ambulance.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

'us' as in you specifically? Are you a charity :P Or am I now obliged to financially support the entire United States?!

Also yes, already donate to Mermaids, which is our charity for trans kids. I like to think of JK Rowling's face every month as my donation goes out :)

When i donated instead of buying charity Christmas cards last year I donated to my local sa counselling charity, the Cats Protection and the ms society. My grandmother died of ms so that's why I chose the ms society.

I recommend a local sa counselling charity and an independent animal charity, if they do exist in your area. Totally don't recommend the rspca because they're fond of putting animals to sleep that other charities don't and they don't actually help animals as much as the adverts make you believe. Independent animal charities often struggle for funding. Do your research to make sure that they have a good reputation though as some don't (for example there was a local one that kept their animals in terrible conditions and misappropriated funds. Thankfully it has closed down now).

Just thought of an alternative way to donate to animal charities. There is a pen sponsorship which means you get a plaque for the pen. Some charities send newsletters or emails others mention you on their Facebook page. You can often choose the animal type. The only potential downside is that some charities ask for a year's payment up front which may or may not be affordable rather than a monthly fee.

I got so confused as I thought you meant pen as in the writing implement!

Thank you for all the suggestions folks! I’ve chosen the charities to add in this year, based entirely on what you’ve all said :)

I don't do charities anymore.

When I read of people crushed by accidents, illnesses, fires etc I donate to the fundraisers. Corporate charities have too many execs, bills and functions, and I would rather see ducats go to the peeps. Often I'll see a jar in a small store for someone in a bad way and I'' donate there. I remember the NFL (tackle football in US) ran a big cancer fundraising drive every October but only 6% made it to "research."

I also like some architectural/historical projects like old cinemas being restored.
If I lived in UK I would be helping the National Trust (and maybe The Royal British Legion)
