adolescent unit

I have been referred to be admitted to an adolescent inpatient unit for my anorexia. scared as hell basically and a bit confused as to why its happening - I don't feel I need it! does anyone have experience of these kind of places?

It's good to see you've been given this opportunity, although I do appreciate how scary it can be. I haven't been in a specific eating disorder unit but I have been in an adolescent psych unit which did treat eating disorders when I was younger. Are there any questions in particular that you have? Obviously all units are different but often certain policies and such are the same. Overall all I can really say is work with them as much as you possibly can and utilise the support available while you have it.

I guess I am confused because I don't think I am ill enough for all the fuss people are making! And also just confused or more have a lot of things i'm unsure about to do with how it works and stuff - I dunno.

The place I'm going is not just for EDs either but that's what I'll be treated for while I'm there. To be honest i can't think of any specific questions - its all a bit of a blur. But thank you! x x

It is often hard to see how ill we are when we are in the middle of things, but rest assured they wouldn't be giving you a place in somewhere like this (placements are scarce) if you didn't really need it. Again, all I can say to you is to grab every opportunity and support offered, scary as it is you are actually incredibly lucky to be getting this level of help (although I fully appreciate it might not feel like that).

It's understandable not to have any specific questions just now, things will be a blur when they are so scary, but feel free to PM me if anything occurs/you just want a chat.

thank you, so very very much! I am aware of how scarce places are and that I am lucky to have the chance of this help but there are so many people more in need and deserving of it. heard today that I have a week before I go. thanks again lovely x x

No problem, maybe focus on gathering together stuff you'll want/need for your stay, maybe treat yourself to a nice new pair of pyjamas and find some books/puzzles/whatever that you like to take with you.
