Am I the only one?

Am I the only one that finds conveyor belts awesome and mind boggling?

Past few days i've been working in a local factory and they make cans for drinks (fosters, coca cola etc etc) I was helping paint the floors of the factory and I just found myself stopping every now and again to just look at all the cans go whizzing around all the different parts of the factory.

Am I the only one that finds that sort of thing totally awesome?! It's just like, wow, that is some smart **** going on.

Random thread, I know!

You should take a ride on it and see where you end up

Sadly I was only working there two days, yesterday and today.

But I don't think management would be too keen on me doing that but I won't lie, the thought did cross my mind!

I could picture it, getting to the printing part of it and getting 'Fosters' or something printed on my head.

We went on a school 'British Industrial Society' trip to Fords Dagenham in '85ish. That was pretty awesome, though as a 15 year old girl I didn't fully appreciate it!

Isn't it just amazing? It makes me think, how long production would have taken back in the day before these automatic machines!

In a can. Imagine writing a letter of complaint to Coca Cola because you found a Mike floating in your can.

Anyway, yeah, I occasionally find myself being very impressed by big, complicated feats of engineering, like automated assembly lines. I was really impressed by the London Underground when I thought about the amount of planning, time, effort and manpower that would have gone into digging all those tunnels and stuff. It struck me as a very complicated system and I thought it was really cool. I was less impressed by the crowds and the smell though. :P

I'd love to hear the Oompa Loompas singing a song to warn children of the dangers of riding conveyor belts.

Have you ever watched 'How It's Made', Mike? You'd really enjoy it - it shows you inside the factories where every day items are made and takes you through the manufacturing processes. I find it fascinating and it's often mind-boggling to realise that we (as humans) have created machines that can do so, so much - and to some people, those machines are very basic! O_o

Now I'll play your ghost as my ace, whenever I'm led astray.
But I am actually good, can't help it if we're tilted.
I'm in my right place, don't be a downer.

^I have seen that and LOVED IT! I could watch that show all day long.

Sadly I no longer work there unless the agency send me there again.

Reminds me of when Miranda went through the conveyor belt somewhere.

They may be interesting, until they break and you have to drag customers shopping up the belt for 2 weeks...Was not fun.

I was JUST about to suggest this! The best episode I ever saw was one in a button factory - absolutely mesmerising!

LOL

This thread just reminds me of Miranda and Sushi. I love the conveyor belts you stand on and move.

Whenever I'm at an airport I'm mesmerised by the luggage conveyor belts that you collect your luggage off of at the end of your flight. I'm always tempted to sit on it & go round but haven't yet
