There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.
Thanks - I got off easy. I had some flashes of darkness and then then everything went back on. I figured my whole area got off easy - then I went for a 90 minute walkabout. Half my area was in the dark - whole blocks with trees and power lines down. Sirens going off in the distance all over. I saw three transformers blow up and light the sky. Two of them were quick flashes but one lasted several seconds and illuminated the sky. It was in an area next to the nuclear power plant were they have acres of electrical infrastructure. The railroad is flooded and the buildings swamped. None of this is remotely like what you saw in Japan tsunami or anything like that. Mostly an inconvenience but not even 9-11 stopped the whole area like this. Stock Market hasn't closed since the 1880s. New York subways have ocean water in them. Bad week for any tourists. Trick or treat indeed..
I did quite well thanks. One block over and I would be sitting in the dark listening to a little radio lol.
Boston was hit but not too bad. Massachusetts had about 175,000 lose power and their airport came to a standstill but they didn't get the kind of flooding that NYC and NY got. They just had a bad rain storm like a typical nor'easter. They should get another hit though as Sandy merges with a storm from the west and drifts northeast. There won't be the high winds and storm surge on the coasts since storm will be coming from the land and not the sea.
All told about 60 people died in the storm including the Carribean. Unfortunate but quite tiny compared to what Hurricanes can do. We had about 4 locals get killed (2 kids when a tree hit them). There will be more bad stories tomorrow I am sure
Glad you're doing okay!
I also appreciate the info and updates, my dads in Boston on a business trip - half of me wants to follow it all and half of me wants to stay in total denial!
There will always be a happy ending. If its not happy then its not yet the end.
i was thinking yesterday, i bet if that was over in this country, the bin men.. or someone else important to the whole storm thing would have decided to go on strike until they got extra pay.

Is a chocolate muffin loving glitter ball
Looks crazy..Doesn't look as bad as it all sounded (but, on the news they are saying it is worse than they expected) NJ got hit really bad though. I guess they will reassess with daylight.
Scary stuff, glad you made it through pretty much unscathed Jack
Life can be beautiful if you let it.
Step back, breathe and take it in
Is it super windy there or just mostly rain? Glad you have power.
My area got lucky because we didn't get the rain other people got. I was at the top of the spinning mass and when it came closest we were in the trailing part. Glad to miss the brunt. We got mostly wind gusts that hit 80-90 mph. New York City got flooded because the storm just pushed the water up the rivers. It was like a 12 ft tide instead of 4ft tide. I just heard a news reader say "Well if people forgot that New York City is built on an island they just got reminded". Tis true
Glad you're doing okay!

Ah yes I remember you posting something about your dad being in Boston. Boston will be getting a lot of rain but not too much wind. Boston got off light. Connecticut (the state between New York and Massachusetts where Boston is) got hit very hard and is shut down. The mass of the storm is southwest of Boston but will head northeast pretty soon.

Im glad youre ok Jack.

There have been a lot of job cuts the past couple years so many of the public workers are glad they have jobs - otherwise they aren't that shy about striking in the face of challenging circumstances. They were on strike just before Hurricane Irene Last year and the state rushed to settle lol. Thanks
Just watching the footage on CNN & thought of you.
Glad you're ok. Like everyone said stay safe.
Have they declared martial law yet?
Thanks. Every 6th person in this area is a policeman. I always complain I'm one of the few without a badge and a formula 1 police car lol. It would take a lot for people to lose their fear of NYPD. All kidding aside they are very good police force on the whole.
