BPD and acute exacerbations

I have been diagnosed with BPD for a while along side depression and anorexia. These are all fairly stable at the moment and fluoxetine has worked well for me for the last 2 years. However I keep on getting 'episodes' of anything between a couple of hours and a couple of weeks where I feel strange. I have loads of jittery twitchy type energy and feel really impulsive, i'll buy lots take risks, self harm, do drugs etc etc. I know these are all BPD symptoms but they seem to hit me all at once then go away fr a while. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks

Hey :)

Glad the fluoxetine is working for you.

I also have BPD and those symptoms have quite the impact on my life. Like my mood swings, they do tend to happen randomly for a short time, then stop then appear again etc.
However, it seems there are periods they get worse, or should I say when I'm more impulsive. Like when I tend to do stuff that have a lot of consequences without even caring that much(usually, I still do impulsive stuff, but not something too big, or too many things at once). So for me, the impulsivity never really goes away, at least not for too long, but sometimes it just gets worse. I hoped I explained it well.

thanks very much for your reply :) So you get kind of similar but with the more constant impulsivity? To me it just kind of feels like I get acutely 'strange' then I'm fine.
Is this common with BPD?

Don't know if its normal for everyone with BPD, but i sometimes seem to have what you describe. Though for the most part some of the symptoms are always there.

Yes, that's how it is for me Lisa.

Something even more similar to what you describe happens to me, but with identity disturbance issues - most of the time I'm fine with who I am and all that; and then all of a sudden, as you said, I get 'strange' and I have no idea who I am anymore. And then I'm Ok again.

As for what's common with BPD, it seems that BPD tends to be a bit different for different people? I'm not sure why, probably because of the variations of symptoms; and that you can get diagnosed when you have 5+ symptoms out of 9, meaning there are many possible combinations. So I'm not sure what's common and what's not. :S
