sadcore/slowcore are similar

slowcore < is similar but slower

I would've thought 'sad' and 'slow' are qualities of specific songs, not bands in general.....? Surely that gets very repetitive? That being said, I don't usually understand what most '-core' genres actually are.

Anyhoo, thinking along the lines of 'sad' and 'slow':
Opeth can be a bit morbid, particularly with Mikael Åkerfeldt's melancholy voice singing over hauntingly beautiful soundscapes.
Anathema's songs tend to have a theme of loss, depression, and desperation
Alice in Chains are a classic grunge band, some very dark music, especially as a lot of it centres around addiction, suicide, & depression
Porcupine Tree are another prog band, their songs are often about the negative side of life

That'll do for now cos I'm probably on the wrong track altogether

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level & beat you with experience

Current aural delvings:

Manchester Orchestra's first and second albums (Nobody Sings Anymore and I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child) depress me like no other.
