A really stupid question about tongue piercing? xD
So I'm looking into getting my tongue done and I have done some research and am fairly sure it's what I want and I can put in the care to make sure it heals properly.
But there's this one thing that has been really niggling at me, and I don't want to go for it unless I know the answer:
Basically, when the piercer puts the dot on your tongue to mark where the needle is going, is that pen a one-time use thing that he'll throw out afterwards, or is the pen used on everyone for anything? Seriously, it's really bugging me and I don't want to get the piercing if the pen is used on multiple people for various piercings ><
I'm assuming you're planning to get this done somewhere professionally and clean, so I would think they'd use a different pen for each person. They probably use "surgical pens" or "skin markers" which are made specifically for medical use and come in sterile wrapping and can be thrown out after each use/person. I would definitely ask about it before you get it done though, just to be sure.
Giving up doesn't always mean you're weak.
Sometimes it just means you're strong enough to let go.
I had my tongue pierced and can barely remember as it was 14 years ago. I would imagine if it is a good piercing studio, they would change it (although I can't remember the pen). Ask them. If in doubt, always ask.
You could just ask your piercer, they should be used to answering questions so I'd imagine they'd be fine if you asked about certain aspects of the procedure. I believe the piercer I go to uses a different pen each time.
It's not a stupid question, you're entrusting a part of your body to be pierced by someone so it's perfectly fine to want to know exactly what will happen :)
O.O totally never even thought about that before
I'd assume one time use? (i hope since my tongue is pierced!) Piercers are generally very good about one time use for things, but i know nothing about that side of it, only the being pierced side!
I have NEVER thought of that before! kind of icky!
I have 2 in my tongue and I don't remember having it marked with a pen first. However that might just be my memory?
But yes, echoing what everyone else has said, ask your piercer. They will be happy to address any concerns you have. and make sure its a reputable piercing shop/piercer.
I didnt have mine dotted either, and that was a few weeks ago.
(It came out 48 hours later, apparently I am a wuss if it means I can't eat or talk =P )
We’ve got obsessions
I want to erase every nasty thought that bugs me every day of every week

You never tell me what it is that makes you strong and what it is that makes you weak.
if anything i would say tongue piercings are the easiest to hide...we wern't allowed any in the army and i had 4 piercings whilst i was serving. 2 in the tongue and 1 in each nip. i never got caught its just a matter of learning to speak with your mouth slightly more closed and eating loads of ice cream so that it doesn't swell enough to cause slurring of the speech. the place i went deffenatly had one use pens for the dots though some places don't even dot due to blood vessels in the tongue you may only be able to get it in a certain point and therefor wont need to worry about any pens :D
The marking stuff is called gentian violet;it can be pre-bought as pens, or some piercers use cocktail sticks, which they just dip in the ink to mark it. They are one-use.
All that we see or seem
is but a dream within a dream.
When I was 15 I wanted my tongue pierced but my mum wouldn't allow it. I waited until my 18th birthday and went out to get it done. I was kinda nervous, super excited, and a little bit worried that my mum would be mad with me lol.
The guy who was going to do it took my details, numbed my tongue and I was all ready to go. He took one look at my tongue and told me I couldnt get it done. Apparently I have too many veins in my tongue and I could bleed to death if I get it pierced. He told me I shouldnt go to anybody else for a second opinion because some places may just risk it to take my money. I was very lucky I went to a professional. I called my mum up after in tears with the whole 'I hope you're happy now' speech lol, a couple of months later I decided to try out tattoos... now 7 tattoos later and havent had any piercings apart from my ears :D
There are days when I still really really wish I could get my tongue done though, but I just darent risk it :(

have you considered tongue surface? it would leave 2 balls ontop of your tongue and nothing on the bottom. the viens he is reffering to are on the bottom of the tongue and the surface would avoid them. something to consider at least if you really want it done.
