Obsessing over s/h **Triggering**

I'm really tempted tonight to do something stupid. I'm obsessing over what I want to do and it's really unhealthy.

How do I stop these intrusive thoughts?? I don't think I've been so obsessed with one act of self harm for ages!

I'm so desperate for puncture wounds. I don't even know if I should say what I want to do because I don't know how dangerous it could be! I want to ask someone about the consequences of it. But who do I ask???

I'm sorry. Help

Puncture wounds are very difficult to keep clean. Someone I am talking with (on another self-harm site) nearly lost his leg due to puncture wounds.

Hi Freddie - what's brought this on do you think? Would you like to talk more about that? What specifically about puncture wounds do you think is making you obsess over the idea?

I used to do puncture wounds a lot with pins or nails. I had to have an operation once because of it - you'd think I'd know the danger. But it IS the danger, it IS because it's stupid. I want to take a risk and right now the place I want to self harm sort of symbolises all sorts of things I hate about my body...

I'm sorry you're feeling so sad about this :( As you said, you do know the danger and maybe that's part of the desire to do it, but try and think the behaviour through - how will you feel after? Will it help in the long run?

maybe try to distract yourself with something you love... that is what I do when I feel the urge to cut. Or go somewhere around a lot of people since you cant cut in front of them. In the long run (depending on how you are feeling) maybe you could do something else that gives you a thrill but isnt really that dangerous? like.. a roller coaster or something i dont know... but something else that can replace the feeling you would get from SH

Thankyou so much for your replies, the good news is that I didn't do it. I actually took some advice and thought it all through. I'm amazed that I'm in this place, perhaps it's just a manic high, but I feel able NOT to do it!

I very rarely get to this stage, usually I just give in before hand.
