sponsored swim

I am thinking of doing a sponsored swim for my voluntary work. What distance do you think it should be? I swim most weeks and I do at least 41 lengths already so it's obviously got to be a greater distance. But I am stuck what.

So any suggestions? I won't be doing it for a while because I need to train and also I need to have time to get some sponsors.

I haven't a clue how many you should do as I have no idea about sponsored things. But I do wish you the best of luck with it.

If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do, what I'm about to do today?

I'm unsure on the length of pool you are swimming, but general lengths are 1.5k (60 25m lengths) or 2k, or if you are feeling really brave a 5k (200 25m lengths) or 10k (400 25m lengths)! It's really up to you though and whatever you feel comfortable with!

I used to swim 5k every other week and it took me just over an hour and a half, so it's not that long to be swimming :)

Have you ever looked fear in the face and said "I just don't care"?

100 lengths works well - 10p per length = £10

Holy cannelloni! Took me two hours twenty!!

The last time I swam 5k I had been out of swimming for a good few years, and trained once a week in the months leading up to it, gradually increasing the distance each time. It is a big swim and pretty exhausting, but achievable if you're willing to put in the training (the time I did it without training didn't end so well :P )

As a disclaimer, I found swimming 200 lengths to be one of the most boring thing in the world, but I never saw the point in getting sponsored for something I would enjoy!

Best of luck for whatever distance you decide to go for :)

I used to swim competitively and train 2-4 hours a day so 1.5 hours isn't that great for the amount of training I did :P we had to do a 5k every other week it felt like hours! I stopped trying after a while :P 2 hours 20 is amazing considering you did less training! :D

Also you could do the swimathon, I think it's in March so you would have to wait a bit, but it's an organised swim and you can choose your distance so might be easier. You can also swim in a team etc.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions. I will probably do it later on this year - that way it will give me plenty of time to train, and also I want to do it during the day when the kids go back to school.
