I don't care. People don't seem to realize that celebrity image is a product, and in her case, her product is shock value. And the fact people are still talking about one performance shows she's pretty good at creating this product. So yeah, everyone can argue back and forth about how bad or distasteful it was, but the more publicity she gets, the more successful she is. So I'm pretty much ambivalent since the people complaining about celebrities like her are feeding into celebrity culture by continuing to give them publicity.
Stereotypes are the epitome of human laziness.

Has a bod like Bradley Manning. If someone is going to flaunt their stuff at least they sould have - stuff. I think Cher summed her performance up snugly

"I know you're sad, so I won't tell you to have a good day. Instead, I advise you to simply have a day.
Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothes, and don't give up on yourself just yet.
It'll get better. Until then, have a day."
... neither does most of the world. She is on much more than "celebrity" news and I'm staggered when people don't know who she is. I see her when I check my email, when I watch TV at work, when I'm on the Internet (as SO many people and websites and places are poking fun and it is incredibly hard to miss.) Don't have to follow "celebrity" (aren't quotes fun?) news to have heard about the rest of the world. She's been around a long time. Been in films and movies and is the daughter of Billy Rae Cyrus (I knew the words to Achey Breaky Heart when I was 3!)... sorry this is long. I just don't like the insinuation that you have to be some "celebrity news" junky to be aware about celebrities.
I think they were referring to not knowing what this recent controversy was about, not that they didn't know who Miley Cyrus is. I'd find it hard to believe anyone wouldn't know who she is. I also don't read any celebrity news, but she's constantly all over major news sites. Then again I suppose if you don't read the news you might not see it. Still would seem odd to not know who she was in general.

This, I know exactly who she is but I tend to read the more important news or the news that means something to me, Also I don't really read/watch the main news outlets.
Can someone fill me in?

She's no Kate Bush in my opinion, but then again i have also bought a worzel's album.
Also her vocal range is not in the same range as Bjork.
And bjork would smash her face in , in a fight. In my opinion.
Not sure were this is coming from.
She's no Nina Simone either.
Or a Delores o'riordan.
Maybe I'm just to opinionated.

Reason: Bjork
Basically she got on stage and 'twerked' with the dude who sings blurred lines. She was also imitating sex acts with a foam finger. People thought it was too much, especially as it was on at a time where children could be watching. Also the dude from blurred lines is married and it was kind of awkward to see her doing that and he was trying to ignore her doing it.
Also she was Hannah Montana, which is a Disney show, so she was this sweet/innocent child star and now shes doing all this overly sexual stuff and her fan base is still quite young so its seen as inappropriate.
Then just after the twerking thing a song came out called 'wrecking ball' were she is naked straddling the wrecking ball and making out with a sledge hammer.
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.

I also didn't see it on the news. She wasn't a main story in the Guardian (at least not on the main 'news' bit), or The Economist, or the New Statesman/Spectator, or main BBC news, or people that I follow on Twitter (and I follow a lot of people). I also don't watch TV (box sets on Netflix, Question Time and Uni Challenge notwithstanding) so wouldn't see it on TV. I saw her video pop up on Reddit, but the beauty/worry of the internet is you can self-select the type of news you see, so I just don't see this type of stuff.
But to dismiss it as "celebrity" news (with the beautiful speechmarks, just to emphasis how much you don't relate to "celebrity" "news" - double one for emphasis on the gossip!) is just a bit silly. It's fine to not be interested, but to dismiss it on those grounds, or to not accept that it's not a part of your news cycle rather than the general news cycle, just seems very blinkered.
Also, if you don't know what somebody's talking about, Google it!
My apologies, I seem to have offended a few people tonight, wasn't my intention at all.
The only one out of that list I look at is The Guardian, I mostly look at The Morning Star, Socialist Worker and RT, they generally give me the news that interests me that main outlets don't normally run.
Thank you, I wasn't sure how to Google something so thought I would be civil and ask, my mistake.
Don't get me wrong - there's nothing wrong with self-selection, as long as one recognises that's what they're doing, and one doesn't dismiss everything outside of that bubble as being irrelevant.
Also, the Google comment wasn't necessarily directed at you - but more generally, at people who say "I don't know what that is, can somebody tell me?" instead of going forth and looking it up. The internet is a bloody brilliant place and we're genuinely lucky to have such a resource, it's worth remembering that from time to time.
