Triggering (Abuse) - Songs About Abuse (all types)

What songs do you know about abuse? I don't know about you, but there is a part of me that listens to them and sees myself in some of them.

Dear Mr. Jesus (I am not sure who does this one - but I'll be darned if it's not the saddest song in existence)

Wash Away Those Years - Creed

It would be excellent if there were songs about emotional abuse, but I don't know if those exist.

"When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place." - Anon

"When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. " - FDR

A bit of a warning some of the lyrics are graphic and can be very triggering..

Alanis Morrissette- Hands clean, Underneath (apparently but I don't get it >.<)

Fiona apple- The child is gone

From first to last- Fiction

John Michael Montgomery- The little girl

Katy Rose- Just in general most songs have some reference

Otep- Same as above really most song and some are quite graphic

Pat benatar- Hell is for children

Patrick Wolf- The child catcher (quite graphic..be careful)

Pink- Long way to happy

You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

Congratulations it's a boy
Buried underneath the afterbirth of joy

Sticks and stones will always break
His bones can barely take the weight
Of your breath breathing down his neck again

Keep it to yourself
You don't need to ask
Everything was golden
Memories will last

Kisses at bedtime never meant
A life that came to represent
Failings that she could not forget again

She could not forget
Breathing down his neck
She could not forget

The price you pay is never worth
The pain to suffer the abuse
Lie down and sleep
With all your ghosts again
Again, again and again

Ghosts- Funeral for a friend

We are not our failures...

runaway love - ludacris

Yeah and it go a little somethin' like this
Yeah and it go a little somethin' like this

Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love

Now little Lisa's only nine years old
She's tryin' to figure out why the world is so cold
Why she's all alone and they never met her family
Momma's always gone and she never met her daddy

Part of her is missin' and nobody'll listen
Momma's on drugs, gettin' *** up in the kitchen
Bringin' home men at different hours of the night
Startin' with some laughs, usually endin' in a fight

Sneakin' in her room when her momma's knocked out
Tryin' to have his way and little Lisa says ouch
She tries to resist but then all he does is beat her
Tries to tell her mom but her momma don't believe her

Lisa's stuck up in a world on her own
Forced to think that Hell is a place called home
Nothin' else to do but get some clothes and pack
She says she's 'bout to run away and never come back

Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love

Little Nicole is only ten years old
She's steady tryin' to figure why the world is so cold
Why she's not pretty and nobody seems to like her
Alcoholic step-dad always wanna strike her

Yells and abuses, leaves her with some bruises
Teachers ask questions, she's makin' up excuses
Bleedin' on the inside, cryin' on the out
It's only one girl really knows what she's about

Her name is little Stacy and they become friends
Promise that they'll always be tight 'til the end
Until one day, lil' Stacy gets shot
A drive-by bullet went stray up on her block

Now Nicole's stuck up in a world on her own
Forced to think that Hell is a place called home
Nothin' else to do but get her clothes and pack
She says she's 'bout to run away and never come back

Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love

Little Erica is eleven years old
She's steady tryin' to figure why the world is so cold
So she pops *** to get rid of all the pain
Plus she's havin' sex with her boy who's sixteen

Emotions run deep as she thinks she's in love
So there's no protection, he's usin' no glove
Never thinkin' 'bout the consequences of her actions
Livin' for today and not tomorrow's satisfaction

The days go by and her belly gets big
The father bails out, he ain't ready for a kid
Knowin' her momma would blow it all out of proportion
Plus she lives poor, so no money for abortion

Erica is stuck up in a world on her own
Forced to think that Hell is a place called home
Nothin' else to do but get her clothes and pack
She says she 'bout to run away and never come back

Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love

Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love

Runaway, runaway love
Don't keep runnin' away
I'll run away with you
If you want me to

Yeah, I can only imagine what you goin' through, ladies
Sometimes I feel like runnin' away myself
So do me a favor right now and close your eyes
And picture us runnin' away together
When we come back, everything is gonna be okay
Open your eyes

Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love
Runaway love, runaway love

I think it's fair to say that I have a thing for the Dresden Dolls, and perhaps I read the abusive messages in. Anyways, two others that could be read as abusive. One at least definitely is.

Slide -- about child abuse, or perhaps about an abusive relationship where the girl is much younger than the man she dates.
The Mouse and the Model -- to me, it's about having to deal with two sides of yourself while you deal with two sides of someone else.

nothing is certain at this time of day
you could reverberate you could decay
the mouse and the model are laughing at us
we'll risk it we're desperate for someone to trust

let's start a new heart the new charts are in
we'll take them we'll break them we'll make them give in

by counting your blessings you wind up in debt
it starts with your family and camps in your bed
you jekyll and hide it when you could have left
your guard down your dress up you must be upset

let's start a new heart the new charts are in
we'll take them we'll break them we'll make them give in

it's dark over here on the flipside of reason
the teaser could be something easy like they did it in a book
you're a crook you're a fake you committed
if you did it say you did it if you didn't suck it up and say you did

let's start a new heart the new charts are in
we'll tax them relax them and make them forfeit
the vote by a landslide the jekyll and hyde
mackenzie macabre she's bonnie and clyde

I do not want to know myself. I do not want to be myself. I know better, so I will strive to be better.

Thank you very much.

I did not know that He by Jars of Clay was about abuse. I have the CD with that song on it. Interesting!

(edit)

I just looked up the lyrics. Me not knowing it was about abuse would be because I never listened to it. Oye.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Prison Sex by Tool. It's about molestation. The lyrics are really heavy.
Me and Emily Rachel Proctor -- getting out of an abusive relationship
Push by Matchbox Twenty -- to me, it's about a women both saying what she wants to to her abuser, and repeating what he's said to her

"Long Way To Happy"

One night to you
Lasted six weeks for me
Just a bitter little pill now
Just to try to go to sleep
No more waking up to innocence
Say hello to hesitance
To everyone I meet
Thanks to you years ago
I guess I'll never know
What love means to me but oh
I'll keep on rolling down this road
But I've got a bad, bad feeling

It's gonna take a long time to love
It's gonna take a lot to hold on
It's gonna be a long way to happy, yeah
Left in the pieces that you broke me into
Torn apart but now I've got to
Keep on rolling like a stone
Cause it's gonna be a long long way to happy

Left my childhood behind
In a roll away bed
Everything was so damn simple
Now I'm losing my head
Trying to cover up the damage
And pad out all the bruises
too young to know i had it
So it didn't hurt to lose it
Didn't hurt to lose it
No but oh
I'll keep on rolling down this road
But I've got a bad, bad feeling

It's gonna take a long time to love
It's gonna take a lot to hold on
It's gonna be a long way to happy, yeah
Left in the pieces that you broke me into
Torn apart but now I've got to
Keep on rolling like a stone
Cause it's gonna be a long long way

Now I'm numb as hell and I can't feel a thing
But don't worry about regret or guilt cause I never knew your name
I just want to thank you
Thank you
From the bottom of my heart
For all the sleepless nights
And for tearing me apart yeah yeah

It's gonna take a long time to love
It's gonna take a lot to hold on
It's gonna be a long way to happy, yeah
Left in the pieces that you broke me into
Torn apart but now I've got to
Keep on rolling like a stone
Cause it's gonna be a long long way

It's gonna take a long time to love
It's gonna take a lot to hold on
It's gonna be a long, long, long, long way to happy, yeah
Left in the pieces that you broke me into
Torn apart but now I've got to
Keep on rolling like a stone
'cause it's gonna be a long long way to happy
