If I'm completely honest I find this an odd problem becAuse I would have any issue with asking if they were a girl or a boy. But I kind of see why it could be thought of as rude/odd.
To those with a simple answer to a question, the question itself can seem simple, but sometimes it's more complicated for other people who have more complicated answers to give.
