You're not stupid for missing it and having feelings about that. I think that would be natural for anyone who had formed an attachment. My dad's retiring from work tomorrow and he's very emotional about how different it's all going to be without the work environment he's been used to for so long. So it's not just people with our kinds of difficulties who feel like that.

You might not find this useful, but sometimes I find it helpful to write to someone. I don't tend to send the letter, but just the act of writing to someone I miss can help me to process the feelings a little bit.

Thank you both for your replies and for understanding. It's really appreciated.

I don't think anyone has had a clue how hard I have found the transition from being in 24/7 supported living to my own independent flat. No professional and no one in my life seems to get that.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did write cards to my two favourite support workers and gave them to them when I left but it's a good idea to write a letter to them and not send it and I will try that.

That's a very big transition, a huge step. Take things slowly.

Thanks I'm trying to. I'm just frustrated because it's been roughly 5 months since I've moved from there and I'm still struggling.

How long were you there before that?

Of course you're going to miss that, it wasn't something you were trying to get away from and you had some good connections and memories so that's definitely not stupid. Adjustments can take a bit of time, and 5 months isn't really that long. It sounds like you need new supportive connections in your life but I understand they can be hard to make and of course take time to develop. Have you made any more progress with the volunteering or groups you were thinking about trying?

3 years is a long time, allow yourself some gentle transition time.

It's hard when you're feeling so low, I know.

Meeting my new care co on Tuesday. Feeling really nervous about it even though I've met her before when I was in hospital. She's an OT and so I'm hoping she'll be much better than the past few care coordinators I've had. Really hoping for more hours of support and funding for the animal assisted therapy. I just want to move forward with my life. I just feel stuck.
