My days are pretty open, but I'm beginning to build my organisational skills and think I would also be able to take on the challenge of bringing back the Book Club and the Scavenger Hunt I previously ran.
The RYL Book Club was a simple affair, for the first week of every month members would vote on which book they'd like to read next month, there were six choices - two classics, two newish books (chosen from The TV Book Club website), one wild choice (a randomly chosen pick either from my own personal pile of unread books or from Amazon's pick of the week) and the final book will be one that came in second place in last months vote.
Of course, if anyone had any books they want to recommend they could send me a PM.
Voting will run for a week, once it closed members would have the rest of the month to track down a copy of the book. On the first day of the new month a thread would be open in the Reviews and Recommendations forum, which is for the readers of the book to write in their thoughts and feelings on the work as they read through it.
To try and make that clearer, because even I lost my place a few times trying to figure it out; you are reading a book over the course of a month, while at the same time also voting for and tracking down a copy for next month.
The Scavenger Hunt was a little more complex.
The scavenger hunt is a photo-based contest that really lets members exercise their creative side. You'll be given a subject and your objective is to capture a photo of something you think depicts that subject perfectly.
It doesn't matter if you set the photo up with friends and props or simply manage to capture something happening. As long as you think that it depicts the subject then it is fine. As long as the photos were in-keeping with the rules of RYL of course. You could take pictures with a digital camera, a webcam or a mobile phone, it doesn't matter as long as you can upload the photo here.
It doesn't matter if you're taking a brand new photo or have taken it in the past. As long as you're the one who took it and you feel it does fit the subject.
One picture per person.
The photo must be taken by you and not by another.
A certain amount of editing is allowed to pictures, but don't go overboard with the photoshop. It's a photo based contest, not a photoshop based contest.
If you also have a little story behind the picture; a reason why you feel it depicts the subject then do go ahead and tell it. Let others know your reasons and they may be able to see your point of view.
You're given ten days to take the photos and four days for voting before a new contest is launched. Subjects were chosen by me, some were easier than others. I chose from a long list I found online; 151 interesting subjects to photograph.

Discuss whether or not you'd like to see these back and, also whether or not you'd take part in these things.
The reason I stopped doing the book club in the first place was due to a lack of interest.
I'd need to know there is a demand and people will take part before I bring them back.

I'd like to take part in a book club again, though I don't have much money to spend on books. I have a kindle and kindle app on my phone (it's free and works like a kindle and you can download books to it the same as a kindle) so if books which were free/very low cost (under £2 for me) were an option then that would help me (and I'm guessing others) out :)
I wasn't all that interested in the Scaveneger Hunt, but I'd take a look at it.
Now I'll play your ghost as my ace, whenever I'm led astray.
But I am actually good, can't help it if we're tilted.
I'm in my right place, don't be a downer.

I could bring back the caption contest, since there does seem to be a demand for it.

The demand certainly seems to be for the caption contest to return. I'll have to put that under consideration too.
Maybe I'd better spend this weekend looking up random pictures for people to caption. just in case.

All these sound awesome! The book club sounds nice and the scavenger hunt really sparks up your imagination. :) Aaand I suppose the caption contest is pretty much what its name suggests? :D
They all sound awesome and I would love to take part :)
The scavenger hunt sounds fun - I think I vaguely remember it first time round, but don't think I ever posted. The caption contest was always a highlight when browsing RYL - would love to see that back!
Since the main demand seems to be for the scavenger hunt and the caption contest I'd better start making plans to bring them back.
I'll aim to get them going again by Monday 3rd June
