you lost weight
My mom can't compliment me. She can't even acknowledge my skill sets. I went to art school, got my BFA. My mom has never drawn or painted or sculpted in her life. She will literally watch me work and tell me I'm doing X wrong. When she does try to give compliments they're always back handed.
"Oh, you lost weight, you almost have a waist again."
"Did you cut your hair? Oh, I like it, she didn't do a very good job though did she? Are you gonna go get it cut again to fix it?"
"I saw you updated your website with your recent drawings. They're interesting. But, I don't think you're supposed to draw like that. People like realism and smoothness, I think you're drawing wrong. No one will buy your art if it's so rough. I know I wouldn't want that in my home."
"You've been managing your bipolar so well lately. I'm impressed. Does that mean you can quit your therapy now? Going weekly seems pretty extravagant."
"You're starting to look toned. I can tell you go to the gym a lot. You better never stop or you'll gain all you weight back. That's why I don't work out, it's not worth it."
