Threads about how RYL used to be

Hi.

I'm putting this here as it's more of a question than anything. There's always a number of threads going around with people talking about how they miss things with how RYL used to be. I was around for some of those things and I remember them too. I guess I'm just confused as to what good they do? Are they helpful or nice for people to talk about?

I think what confuses me is that I read them similar to how people talk about like, I miss how things used to be before I was mentally ill or before this traumatic event happened and I want to go back to that. When the reality is that the world changes and people change over time, and that's not inherently bad. Trying to hold onto the past instead of accepting things as they currently are can in itself be harmful. I dunno. Maybe I'm just missing something in that there is a point to it I am not seeing. Or maybe there is no point.

Maybe this is just a really stupid thing to ask and I'll delete it.

I don't think it's a stupid question, for what it's worth. I feel similarly.

Just wanted to celebrate the community as it is now, and recognise the ways that people still work hard to support each other.

I am currently:

It's not a stupid thing to ask at all!

I think some people simply enjoy reminiscing. I know when I meet up with old friends it's fun to have a bit of conversation about "oh, remember when we did xyz". However it's totally OK for you to not get any enjoyment out of that and you're right that it could be unhelpful to hold onto the past and fixate on wanting things to be like that. As long as it's just a bit of nostalgia and enjoy old memories I don't think that's unhealthy.

Does that make any sense?

We’ll find a way to fight it, we always have.
It's not how tragically we suffer but how miraculously we live.

Oh, Jenna that does make sense. Thank you for explaining.
