Missing it

I haven't cut in several months and it had been close to a year before that. I am in therapy and on meds, so the urge to cut is gone, but I still miss it. I've found other ways to deal with my negative emotions, such as talking to friends and doing things to gt my mind off of it, but I still think about cutting.

I'm wondering ifother people experience this. For those of you who no longer cut, do you miss it like I do? I guess I just want do know if this feeling is "normal."

I haven't self-harmed for a year and 7 months, and I miss it everyday (hence why I come on this website!). But I know that in reality it's not what I want to do, and that I would feel worse after I did it!

I haven't cut in 3 weeks, which compared to you two is nothing but it's a long time for me, and I miss it. Everyday I have to fight the earge but Im getting there.

Those feelings are defintly "normal".

Yes, I think those feelings are definitely something quite a lot of people recovering from self-harm experience.
It's good to hear that you've found other ways to cope with it, and I think that, over time, you'll probably start to miss self-harm less and less. Keep doing what you're doing know, and it sounds as if you'll do great. Congratulations on the several months free, also. :)

Hmmm - I guess I know what you mean... I wouldn't say I miss the SH, but perhaps the comfort that it gave. I could liken it to smoking for myself.

But HUGE congrats on getting professional help and working through some things. I hope this is the start of a new beginning and year for you =)

well done thats great :) yeah i think there is always an element that will miss it because its something that brought us what we wanted in difficult times. I think it will always be there, but eventually we will realise we really dont want it at all. sorry if that doesnt make sense

i think it is totally normal to miss it, i still get urges and miss the relief it used to bring me. the important thing is that you try and fight these feelings and remember the negative things about sh as opposed to the positive things, and keep going!

I haven't done anything in about about 2 months but i miss it everyday, it's normal getting used to any change will be wierd.

I am currently:

im nearly 7 months free, but i miss it so much. Its weird to miss something that made my life hell but i really do. Whenever i think of it, i dont think of the bad just the good. Just that feeling that made me feel better if only for a little while. I miss that feeling.

I haven't cut in 10 months and sometimes it feels like I miss it every single second. So yeah, I'd say it's normal to miss it.
