Oh annoying, but making the boy play security guard sounds like a plan.

Yeah I was like that when my last work introduced employee of the month, I never won it though :( but I did win a pin badge! They want us to put a £5 a month into a kitty to give to the winner- ceeb for that ****, you already get a large shake who needs anything else for like just doing your damn job?

Hi Hazel.

dont think i've ever worked anywhere with an employee of the month thing. Seems odd really to get a reward for doing a job, surely the pay is the reward :P

Cat I hate to be blunt but well if you can't cope with the work despite already lengthy extensions maybe you should suspend?
I'm not making any decision to suspend until after reading week. At the moment I'm not working (job wise) much during reading week and I'm hoping by not having seminar prep I might be able to do the essay. I apparently have more of it written than I realise which also helps.

It doesn't help that I've had issues with sleep recently, but I'm starting to level out at 5-6 hours solid sleep which is better than the last month. I've been able to concentrate more today than I have in the past few weeks which I'm hoping is a trend that continues. And there was a lot of drama outside of uni that caused stress last month, which have all been resolved.

Obviously if things go downhill again I will look into a study suspension.

it's bloody cold outside and I am not dressed appropriately plus triedness making me be cold anyway

Hazel, but everyone gets paid the same and not everyone puts the same effort into their job. So it's a recognition thing more than anything and I guess supposed to motivate people to put effort into their job

Cat, deciding later sounds like a feasible plan if you are working on factors affecting your study performance. I hope that it will work out for you whatever decision you make eventually.

Thanks Lana

I am in discussions with uni at the moment to possibly do my dissertation over the next academic year rather than over summer too, but it is literally in the early stages of discussion.

hmm, I guess... but surely it's better to punish those who dont do the work?

then again half my work now is price work so I only get paid for what I do, it makes so much more sense!

You cant punish people at work, and its better to give people an incentive anyway.

I am snuggled up in my blanket and have had prn. Uni work isn't pressing so shall watch GOT for a while see if that helps.

Which season are you watching, Lillie?

I started properly catching up as I only watched sporadic episodes so far, but a German TV program is re running all episodes atm so I get to watch three episodes every night

i dont mean like physical punishment :P I mean like warnings and disiplanary action and firing and such. Or even giving alol those who put effort in a pay rise (even if its only as small one) but not giving it to those who dont try.

basically people who dont try irriate me and those sorts of people are unlikely to be motivated by possitive reinforcement.

or, as well as having employee of the month for hard workers maybe have some form of shaming thing for those who don't do anything :P

I don't know... just dont see such schemes being the motivation its meant to be

Like I said, it's a recognition thing and not meant to actually reward anyone other than psychologically

And selective payrise is probably illegal, we all get paid whatever the current tariff contract says
I get paid extra for team leading, but it's less than €1/hour and doesn't really compensate the additional effort and stress tbh

Bit people who don't try often don't do anything that requires official discipline they could just do better.

I got season 2 on did for Christmas.

Some people are just lazy, and especially in a customer service job what happens realistically is that people who put in the effort have to work harder to make up for it

I started season two last night too!
Any favorite characters?

I haven't watched or read GOT and I've been told they are things I'll enjoy. They are on my 'post degree' list of things to do.

and that is exactly what irritates me... esspecially if it's a time limited project and say 5 people have to work stupidly hard and end up putting in 12 hour days or working so hard that they totally exhaust theirselves to make up for the couple of people doing nothing and yet still being paid

Camp Arya here too, House Stark ftw
Emilia Clark is cute, but lord, she's a horrible actress imo and I despise her character tbh

Hazel, realistically speaking though you'd still get punished as a group if you didn't finish in time. It wouldn't be single people. Nobody cares about a single person being slow/lazy/incompetent.
