I'd like to add a couple I don't see here yet. Jewelry making is a great distraction, and not expensive unless you make it your life. Beading kits, for example, are available for around $10 US and have enough stuff in them to make several projects. I need to replace a few of my tools and things that have been lost/broken, but when I have the tools I make handmade chains, too. It can take hours or days of meticulous work, link by link. Not only is it a great distraction, being able to hold up a stretched, polished, finished piece of handmade jewelry is a great feeling of accomplishment. The only thing better is presenting it to someone else as a gift.
I have a smartphone, and recently I found out that many books in the public copyright domain are available for free, legal download. I'm re-reading all of H. P. Lovecraft's work right now. Fantastic distraction for me. I always have my phone.
The henna idea is great!! It is distracting to draw, "scabs" up
and you can pick it off if that is what you do when you self
harm, and it stays on like scars. I just got one for other
reasons and it has really helped!!
LOVE her, she's dying. Can't you see her smile is LYING?
Rubber bands don't work for me... For me, they are a way of SI
Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken.

"I love you."
Maybe some day those three words will actually MEAN SOMETHING.
Because every boy and girl who has said that to me
Has HURT ME
Or LEFT MY LIFE.
I find colouring in a colouring book an useful distraction tool. I dont care how babyish it sounds, but I find it works.

Fake wound kits you can get for Halloween and things are useful if you want 'wounds', you can get some pretty realistic results. One I used had putty and theatre blood so you can create various 'wound' sizes, lengths etc.
Scribbling I've found it a good way to vent anger or frustration, I've found using a stack of paper means you won't damage what ever is under it, table/desk etc. I get anxious on the phone and have found scribbling on a pad while I'm talking helps to keep me calm. It's also handy for jotting down notes of course :)
