Anxiety

Hi all.

Sometimes (in fact, most days) I get an anxious feeling. It's not triggered by anything and it's not about a particular experience or thought. My stomach ties itself in knots and there's a weight in my chest. I get distracted and can't follow conversation, films or bookd. Most days I am able to distract and do relaxing things which usually helps. But sometimes it gets worse and worse and I end up taking PRN.

Has anyone else had this type of anxiety?

Anxiety can feel very physical and I think that sometimes the triggers are small and can't be noticed that well, especially when the physical feelings get bigger. Do you notice when the anxious feelings start, when they are a bit smaller? It's good that you're using distraction and relaxation when you can. I'm not sure how to stop things getting worse when the usual things don't work but taking PRN is ok, that's what it's there for. Have you spoken to anyone about these feelings?

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

Don't try to calm the storm, calm yourself, the storm will pass.

I mentioned them to my psychologist once but I made out it was wasn't a big deal because there were other things to talk about it. I have finished therapy now.

I don't know when it starts. Mornings are usually ok.

If you feel like it is having a big impact on you, is there someone else you can talk to now?

Not really. I need to be OK for now so they know I'm not needy.

That wouldn't make you needy. Also, maybe you could get their help early and prevent things from getting to a difficult point.

If you feel able to then I'm sure they would want to know. Do you have an appointment soon?

How have you been recently? Have you spoken to anyone about your anxiety yet?

I am Ok, I think the anxiety has even been a little better - still there but not as bad. Although I am worried voices and fears are getting worse. But that's a whole other problem. I asked my CPN for an appointment with the psychiatrist but from what he said it may be a while before he can see me. I have got an appointment with my CPN on Tuesday so might talk about it then.

I think you should mention anything that you think is important to your CPN. Maybe they can help and try to get a psych appointment for you sooner if it's needed.

I have written out what the problem is, so if I can't speak I can hand over the note. Wish me luck!

Good idea. I hope it goes well for you. What do you think you need luck with? The explaining, the outcome..?

Getting the words out! I couldn't but I gave him my note. He said I was coping well and he will get me information on anxiety. I got sillyly anxious in the appointment but he helped me relax a bit.

I'm so glad he helped you to feel relaxed, sounds like it was a good appointment.
How are you doing now?

Well done, you had a good plan there with writing a note. Anxiety can be hard to deal with. Did he let you know about ways you could help yourself to relax?
