Well, cannabis isn't harmfull to you in any way (unless you drive stoned, but you wouldn't drive texting on your phone either). It's a medicine for many things, but if you want to use it to quit drinking; decide for yourself that instead of a drink, have a puff. But you've got to put your will in it, smoking cannabis alone isn't going to get rid of your drinking in and of itself.
Smoking a bit can help you to reflect and think things over, so I'd rather suggest that and try to decide to quit/cut down on drinking rather than simply switching over from alcohol to cannabis. But, again, cannabis causes no harm to the body or brain and is a much healthier choice than alcohol, or even caffeine.

That's not true at all. Cannabis, like tobacco, (and like all drugs) causes long term health issues, like cancer and increased risk of heart attack. There's also a possible link with mental health issues (that is strongly correlated, but not proven).
Also, medicinal cannabis is NOT the same as weed from your local dealer. For one, it's purer, under the guidance of a doctor, and it also tends to come in safer forms.
It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you go.
No-one gets remembered for the things they didn't do.

We're definitely going to hell,
but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
Oh, here we go again. Really, this has been disproven time and time again. Quite the contrary THC kills certain cancer cells.
Please do some research beforehand; here's a place to get you started:

The reason street cannabis can be more dangerous, is because it often is mixed with other things, or it's spiced with artificially made chemicals producing effects similar to smoking pure cannabis. These artificial ones are dangerous. Natural cannabis is not. These are often added because they're very cheap and dishonest street dealers mix it with real cannabis and/or other herbs and proclaim it as the real thing.

Sorry I haven't read the previous posts so I may just be repeating. Replacing one substance for another will not be good. If you're going to go clean it has to be completely clean.
The only time you will find real light is when you're searching in the dark..
Like others have said, replacing one substance/behaviour for another isn't going to help with the main root of the problem.
Have you ever been to a rehab facility? Have you tried any other medications apart from acamprosate? I'm on baclofen at the moment. Theres another medication that you can take which apparently makes you feel really ill if you drink. And theres naltrexone. Maybe you could research into some of these medications which are safe and prescribed by a dr instead of cannabis?
From personal experience I wouldn't smoke cannabis to help, I was the other way round, I felt like I HAD to smoke weed and was full of panic when it was about to run out. I would smoke in the mornings too. I stopped a few years ago but now alcohol has been a prominent problem.
I hope you manage to get some support to help you kick this!
sticks and stones may break your bones but words can tear your heart out.
Must agree with Cedrus, while cannabis isn't physically addictive (or harmfull), it can become a habit simply because it's something you like doing, if you let it slip out of hand.
