Hey guys :)
I hope you don't mind me sharing this - feel free to move/delete this, mods, if it's not wanted - but I wanted to share something that I've found really helpful.
I think a lot of people who've had experiences with abuse and bullying have felt out of control at one time or another because of what's happened, and that can happen to anyone, not just SA survivors.
A while ago we had [
this - may be triggering, uses body part terms and *words*] thread posted, about a poem. The last verse really stood out to me, and I was thinking about them a lot today. I tried out making a mental "list" of things that were "mine". Making them as relevant to me as possible
really helped me, it made me feel a lot more empowered and positive.
But it doesn't have to be s*xual. If you've been physically hurt, you could say "My body is mine, my bones are mine" or if you've suffered emotional abuse: "My thoughts and personality is mine. It's not for people to play with. It's me, and they are mine".
It might sound stupid... but it really helped me. Not a fix all, but very empowering nonetheless and wanted to share to see if it helped anyone else.
Stay strong and keep fighting.
Chelsea
