*blows dust off of the cub scout handbooks*
You need to be a wolf scout (8 years old) to get your rights to be able to use a bladed object of ANY kind. And even then its only a knife. So as a 6 year old he couldn't use the silly thing. And the BSA has a huge thing about not bringing them to school, the airport, ect.

Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

Maybe they should invent a new writing utensil. Pencils are far more dangerous than a spork.

As far I could see looking at the picture on the article and then searching online, the thing is a swiss army knife that only contains a knife, fork and spoon, however the knife is a sharp knife, not a butter knife type thing. I would guess that's why the blade isn't pictured on the article, to create the sense of injustice. Whereas I think tools such as that should be banned from school, sure he may have had no malicious intent, but I don't think 6 year olds should be trusted with something that could potentially hurt someone.

I think, the thing is, they have zero tolerance to protect the pupils.
He may not have meant any harm with it, but what if someone knew he had it on him & stole it for malicious intent?

Because a pencil quite clearly is as dangerous and sharp as a blade? *raises eyebrows*

You can always argue that a law or rule will be taken to extremes, such as prosecutions for assault where someone touched someone with one finger. But I think everyone knows that isn't the case.

No, but it is something that could "potentially hurt someone." I knew a kid that stabbed someone in the head with a pencil.

Way way way too far. The bit in the article about the little girl who was excluded because her gran put a knife in with her birthday cake to cut it up with but she got in trouble AFTER the teacher had used said knife to cut up the cake made me laugh.
