i got about 5 yards of elastic from a sewing store, cut pieces about 6 inches long, and tied the ends. that's what i use at home, and i got pretty elastic ties for going out.
Speaking of bobble and bauble, I have had a lot of fun trying to teach one American member on here how to pronounce them differently- she said them both exactly the same! Americans on this thread, do you pronounce them differently to each other?
I may be biased as I've now been living in Wales for 3 years and although I've not lost my American accent, my pronunciation of some things has naturally changed...but I would say "bauble" sounding like "baw-bull" and "bobble" more like "bah-bull".
Just skimmed this thread... Why does nobody call it a hairband like I do? D:
For you to be here now trillions of drifting atoms had somehow to assemble in an intricate and intriguingly obliging manner to create you. It's an arrangement so specialized and particular that it has never been tried before and will only exist this once. That is of course the miracle of life.
-Bill Bryson
Don't ever frown because you never know who's falling in love with your smile.
I call it a hair bow and everyone I know here also calls it that.
“I like the stars. It's the illusion of permanence, I think. I mean, they're always flaring up and caving in and going out. But from here, I can pretend...I can pretend that things last. I can pretend that lives last longer than moments. Gods come, and gods go. Mortals flicker and flash and fade. Worlds don't last; and stars and galaxies are transient, fleeting things that twinkle like fireflies and vanish into cold and dust. But I can pretend...”
― Neil Gaiman
I call the metal thing a slide and the band an Alice band. Just to confuse you all.

Late to the party as ever, but hair bobbles/scrunchies to me are the thicker kind, covered in fabric, hair ties are the little thin elasticy ones, and the pins are hair grips.
But of course I always tie my hair back with lesbians.
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare,
As any she belied with false compare.
the thing you're refering to I'd call a hair bobble. but when i had long hair i would use an elastic band (the hair dresser used to tell me off for this)
I call it a hair tie. A hair bobble i think is something which has those two bobble/cubes attached to the hair tie.
