Chapter 6
The next morning, Kirsti was first to awake. She looked around and quietly got up so she didn’t disturb anyone. As she was about to leave the room to enter the kitchen, her eyes fell on Simon and Laurence, who were still in the same position from the night before. She couldn’t help but smile at how sweet they looked together and she left the room as she saw Laurence begin to stir.
After she made two cups of coffee, she went and sat under the gazebo in the garden. She quietly drank her coffee. She made the extra cup because she had a feeling that someone had woken up. And she was right. Laurence came through the back door yawning and smiled at Kirsti. He came and took a seat beside her, taking the coffee that was offered to him.
“Thanks.” He smiled and began to drink some of the coffee.
“You two looked rather cute this morning.” Kirsti said quietly. Laurence froze.
“What?” He asked.
“You and Simon. All snuggled up together.”
“Were we?” He asked again.
“Yep. Was that just you getting too comfortable or is there something going on between you two?” She questioned.
“We’re best friends, so we’re obviously going to be comfortable around each other. We’re really close, but we aren’t together.” Laurence looked over at Kirsti, hoping she had believed him.
“Okay, I understand. But if there was something between you two, you can trust me.” She smiled reassuringly, placing her hand over his.
“Yeah, thanks sweetie. But don’t worry, there’s nothing going on.” He smiled back, running his thumb over her knuckle.
Back in the house, Amy and John had disappeared somewhere upstairs. Jojo and Jonathan were still snoozing. Simon awoke to find half of his friends missing, his lover missing and his hand over sleeping Hannah’s. He didn’t move it. Not even when her eyes fluttered open. Instead he looked into her eyes and smiled. Seeing her smile made his stomach do a back flip.
“Morning.” She whispered.
“Morning.” He whispered back.
They lay there for a few more minutes before Simon got up, smiled at Hannah and left the room.
