Cat litter

I recently bought a teeny kitten bertie. He is very good and always uses the litter tray.

I'm after advice on a reasonably priced non clumping cat litter. I bought a kitten litter and it's not very absorbant. And then I bought wood pellets and he doesn't much like it.

Any recommendations?

Personally I think clumping is better - easier to clean, less messy and goes further But litter is down to owner preference just as much as the cat's preference!

This is the stuff I've always got on best with: http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pe...t-litter-10ltr

Or otherwise I've bought the normal non-clumping Catsan stuff.

If Bertie doesn't like the wood pellets you could always do a bit of a mix of the old and new stuff and reduce the mix percentage until he gets used to 100% wood pellets.

The breeder said if they eat clumping litter it's bad? Not that I've seen him eat litter!

I've mixed some wood pellets in and he just really doesn't approve.

Is catsan good at odour control and that?

I've never heard of that happening before! Cats are smart and usually keep eating and toileting very separate so I don't think they'd ever eat it. Maybe if they got it on their feet and washed their feet? But that'd be such a small amount...

I've also come to realise that breeders can have some very crackpot advice sometimes...

I'm not the right person to ask about odour control as I can't actually smell but I don't remember issues with it when I was growing up with cats.

Avoid the grit type litters as they stick like glue to the tray and are a pain to get off the tray. Plus if they get into the sewerage pipes they block it. As an ex cats protection volunteer who has used many types I can tell you it is best to avoid.

Nonperson gives out good advice. I use wood based myself with Worlds best cat litter if I can't get it. Worlds best is expensive but it is flushable and clumping.

If you have a pets at home nearby sign up for their VIP card. As well as giving money to charity each time you shop you get a free magazine and Bertie gets a birthday present! Even if you don't use it regularly (tbh the only thing I buy from pets at home is their litter) it is still worth it.

I always use Tesco lightweight litter. My cats find other ones too rough and this stuff is quite easy to clean. Cheap too.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

So I don't have a cat, I only know types and brands from client cats whom I've taken care of. My favorite by far was pine shavings because it didn't clump but was super easy to clean and it always smelled AMAZING. I don't know brands or anything because I'm sure we have different brands here than you do and I don't even know what brand this was. But of all the kinds clumping and nonclumping I've seen, it was the best to me.

If you really want me to go into science I can tell you that we've tested clay content of multiple US brands and absorbency to determine the correlation because uh. That's a geology thing go figure.

Congrats on kitten!!!!

If you have space, I love https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01...PDL&ref=plSrch because it’s absorbent and doesn’t leave a smell. I’m not the best at cleaning the cat litter but this is amazing
