I love watching the great British bake off, although I get so hungry when watching so each week I make sure I know what they are making the week after so I can eat the same thing at the same time- next week I will be eatig bread.
“The only way that we can live is if we grow. The only way we can grow is if we change. The only way we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we are exposed is if we throw ourselves into the open.”
See I disagree about Marie, I know it was a long time ago, but she had professional bakery training and ran a cupcake business. Put her at an unfair advantage.
Does anyone else think Sandy looks like Victoria Wood though?
The bakery training was only a week long course though hardly extensive
When we lose twenty pounds... we may be losing the twenty best pounds we have! We may be losing the pounds that contain our genius, our humanity, our love and honesty. ~Woody Allen

I made this thread and I haven't even taken part in it yet!
I'm rather sad that Marie left, but she seemed like she was being too simplistic with her bakes, which isn't a bad thing, but the judges want someone unique and daring... Meh I say! :P
I'm really chuffed that Ian has won star baker twice in a row! But I wonder if he'll be another (Richard?) and end up getting loads of star baker awards, into the semi finals, BUT NOT ACTUALLY WINNING!
I'm also somewhat pleased to see... (Dorette?) Go last week as I didn't think she was anything special to be honest. Her signature bake of the bed was appalling. It took her 5 hours to make THAT?!
I know that sounds incredibly bitchy, and mean, but I've watched Bake Off for so long I guess I've kind of turned into a bit of a Paul Hollywood. :P
I was annoyed that Ian got star baker for the third week running. I think Tamal should have been awarded it instead, and he seemed like he thought he had won.
I was a little sad that Sandy left as she was a great character! I think she just had a bad week which was unfortunate.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
Sorry to see Ugne go this week. She's creative, bt experienced some poor execution of ideas this week. It happens.
I'd heard Ian has been having lessons from a professional though I'm not sure how true this is. I would be disappointed if it's true because I enjoy his approach.
I forget the names of most of the bakers but I loved the henna design on the arctic roll. And that young girl's signature bake with the madeleine cakes - pretty.
I'm glad that man's pineapple upside down cake turned out well. I fear that the signature bake is becoming too much like the showstopper with too much focus on design and not enough on a good bake and signature flavour combos.
Loved the Cyprus pasties - how fun to think of something that nobody's heard of (even Mary) s there's a lot interpretation. They all did well. The showstopper challenge disappointed me (maybe as I hate vol au vents (sp?) Though Flora's were predictably beautiful.
Although I didn't want either in the bottom two to go (won't name because spoilers) ultimately I think they made the right decision.
I agree it was the right decision but I was still really sad :(
I was disappointed by the showstopper too! I just don't think vol au vents can ever be that exciting (I do enjoy eating them though!)
"I know you're sad, so I won't tell you to have a good day. Instead, I advise you to simply have a day.
Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothes, and don't give up on yourself just yet.
It'll get better. Until then, have a day."
I have baked something for bake off every week, I really enjoy doing it because it feels a bit more interactive :p
Tamal is my favourite, I think he is a slow burner!
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.
l've only just started watching this (late to the party l know), l love how British it is! I'm threeo episodes in (first two plus the latest-l couldn't wait :p) and it makes me so hungry watching it! I need to start regularly baking!

You could say she did all that off her own back though, created her own business on top of learning the trade. Very difficult to do either one alone, never mind at the same time. Not sure l could do that, l respect her going out and doing that.
Yes! She totally does, its her mannerisms and the facial expressions she pulls. She's hilarious.
