Okay so Im gonna start this on Monday, and Im really excited about not SH :D I have been seeing someone from PCHAMs and she gave me a mahooosive list of effective things that distract you from self harming. I will probably post a few if anyone has an urge :)

Sure :) On the sheet are methods that paticipants used for resisting urges to SH and then there is a % of how effective they are so I will post the top ones :D

-Keeping busy.
-Being around friends.
-Talking to someone about how you feel.
-Writing about how you feel.
-Talking to friends.
-Interacting with someone who is nice to you.
-Thinking of someone who cares aboutyou.
-Finding someone who is udnerstanding.
-Doing sports or exercise recreationally.
-Listening to music.
-Anticipating others' reactions to self-harm.
-Being around people.
-Doing mindless activities. (I think this is a really good one, Sudoku is a good example and they have Sudoku challenges on the distractions page : http://www.recoveryourlife.com/index.php?categoryid=13 )
-Reading.
-Writing poetry.
-Being in a less chaotic enviroment.
-Taking a how bath or shower.
-Thinking about how much it will hurt.
-Thinking about others with similar problems.
-Receiving outpaitient counselling.
-Removing the means/instrument typically used to self-harm from home.
-Talking to your docter/professional.
-Religion/spirituaity.
-Closing eyes and thinking calming thoughts.
-Doing household chores.
-Relaxing.
-Chatting on the internet.
-Working with paint, clay, play-doh.
-Playing a musical instrument.
-Learning something new.
-Massaging the area you want to harm.
-Cooking.

I have found something that can help is going to a place where you can't harm yourself such as going in to town/to a library/to a museum/to the park etc. Anywhere where you are around others thus lessening your chance to harm yourself!

And yay, I'm glad more people are joining:)

Sophie- It's not been too hard, I'm just keeping that goal in sight, and thinking about the people I love who I promised this to, when I get triggered, i look at a book i have, which cheers me up..it's got a recovery calender in it and things like that, also, watch Lee Evans, he is amazing :D
