Stolen Phone (Google Latitude Enabled)

Long story short, went to the library. 4 Hours later I realised I didn't have my phone. My sister rang it, they'd switched it off (it had a full battery when I left my house as I remember unplugging it from the charger). I searched everywhere, and reported it to Campus Security, and the library staff, and they haven't had it handed in.

And then, 1 hour ago my Latitude (GPS tracker) updated, saying it was at an address about 20 mins from where I live. Obviously, the only way this could happen is it being taken their (ie. stolen). I have the door number (obviously, there's a margin of error) and according to Google this is a phone shop.

So my question is, what are my options? I could block the phone/sim, but then I still have to get a new one (it only stops the other people using it), or is it possible to get the police to track it? Else, I could go to the phone shop and try and 'buy' my phone back. (There's a lot of data, pictures on the memory card).

It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you go.

basically this.

Take screen shots etc etc of the track and gather as much info as you can.

Also, is you dial 101, it will take you to your nearest police station rather than calling 999 if you wanted to log it out of hours.

Also, even if youre going to just go down to the police station, you can fill an online report of a none serious crime and immediately get a reference number which means that there will already be a file created about the incident when you do go down.

I assume all your data would already be gone if it has been put out for sale as well as the sim card, and also why would you buy it back? As it has been stolen, as everyone else said go to the police and tell them where it is located. Assuming you know your imei number it should be simple to go there and get it back.

I hope you managed to get it back.

Thanks for your help. I wanted the data back as my mum is sick, and all the photos I took of her last weekend were on there (and not uploaded to computer yet). I guess that doesn't matter now.

My friend visited the shop and they told him they couldn't give it back unless he proved it (with the IMEI number) but when he went back with the number, they said they didn't have it. I've blocked the phone and reported it to the police, but I'm not very hopeful. It's just frustrating because I know where it is; I can see it on the map, and I can't do anything about it. (In hindsight, trying the shop was stupid, why would they admit to handling stolen goods) :/

If it has been reported to the police and you know where it is im assuming it s a simple go round and collect job. It would have been better not to have sent someone round though because if they know its stolen then they may have gotten rid of it. Maybe its just me but if i went there and they said they didnt have it i would have just called the police there and then.

No, because the way it works, is it gives me an address (ie. Number X, X road, London) but as the man in the shop argued to me, that includes the flat above which they don't own, and therefore it's 'entirely plausable' the people who happened to to live above the shop could have it. (ie. it's not enough proof, though it's very suspicious)

I guess you just have to wait for the police to do something now.
