Would need more info aB. What operating system? Can you boot into OS at all? What happened that you were trying to restore. Did you try safe mode ?

Good old avast - what is that like the 1000th member whos had computer trouble while running it?

James, RYL's systems admin will be able to give you some pointers here, but as Jack says we would need lots more info!

Exactly what happened when it 'didnt restore'

Well, there are causes to this and for sure James could manually clean it up if he had the machine in front of him,

However he would probably advise, as I will now that the best course of action is to make a CD/DVD of all files you dont want to lose, and start afresh, installing AVG instead of Avast :)

Windows has a way of needing this every few months to a year :)

Stop using VISTA! It sucks majorly. And I like BitDefender anti-virus <3

And don't forget ZoneAlarm - ZoneAlarm is God.

It’s not always that easy to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys,
Sinners can surprise you and the same is true for saints.
Why do we try to define people with simply good or simply evil?
Because no one wants to admit that compassion and cruelty can live side by side in one heart and that anyone is capable of anything.

Why is it that people pay for anti-virus software when they can use AVG which is so much better than so MANY of the payed for systems.

My friend had norton, got a virus, rang up norton who said "Yeah, we can fix it, but it'll cost you 70 quid".

I mean seriously, AVG is awesome. Just don't download loads of crap, you'll be fine.

Dicky!

Yeah what Harley said about the backup discs is essential with a acer laptop, i have one and they will try and sting you £50 for a 'restore disc' with windows vista on if you cant just re-install from the partition where the pre-installed software is. Also, the shop didn't set my acer up properly with administrator privileges, so it might be an idea to check that out on yours since a lot of programs wont update properly without this set up right, that may not be the cause of the error but it certainly would be messing things up merrily. Good luck, may the farce be with you

BTW - be careful about where you download avast from, some versions from free sites are not what they seem and will cause problems.
