I got told today that I have been accepted onto the full dbt programme. My last pre-treatment session is on 29th December. Group starts on 05 January and my first official 1 to 1 session is on the 11th.
I am so relieved and thankful as this means I can enjoy christmas with my sister and her family without it hanging over my head and wasn't expecting it.

That song is like one of the first Christian (pop) songs I heard. I never realised there was modern Christian music until about 2 1/2 years ago. I'm so glad I found it, because after that, I found Casting Crowns and Matt Redman and lots of others...

I've just seen this thread! This is really random but I was saved early last year during the off phase of my on and off SH. Life goes ok and I feel really close to God and church is great, but about 8 months ago life didn't go so great and know I SH again. I don't feel that closness to God anymore and I can't stop SH, it's the way I cope with things. It feels like God has abandoned me. Can anyone give me any advice on how to stop and strengthen my faith in the lord?

Erm... I would suggest reading the Bible more, maybe like the Psalms and the Gospels. Just a little at a time, don't over-do it, you will feel bogged-down in it all.
And pray loads, try and find a way of praying that works for you, like maybe setting aside time each day, say 30 mins a day, to pray, where you sit somewhere on your own and pray, or like choose to pray when you get a few mins spare, like on a car/bus journey, just like stop doing other things for 5 mins and just pray.
I like to have music on when I pray, it focuses my mind, Christian music though. And when you pray, don't just be thinking things, take time to just listen to God, and see what He gives you.

I hope its ok that i post here i want to learn things about Christianity even though Ella my host was born Christian
i personally do not know enough about it and am wanting to learn more.
i know that this time of the year is very important to those who are christian as its the time of year that Jesus was born and that Christian celebrate this time of year.
But also for many of us we find this time of year hard because of past abuse at this time of year .
But i wish to start a new and think of this year a Christmas with out having to worry about the past.
The little ones are excited about Christmas as they get some thing from Ella and Ella's husband.
I hope this isnt an invasion on my part by posting here

I think for me, Christmas means family, food, and lots of nice things, but it's also difficult. Though not traumatic, I just get annoyed with some of my family.

Just wanted to post something that has helped me a bit...
Romans 8:12 NTL "Therefor dear brothers and sisters you are under no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do"
This helped, as to me, it says urges to SH are from our "sinful nature" and although it sounds obvious it's helped me to read this verse and think I do not have to do this. Despite this of course it's still hard! Just sometimes encouraging and helps. Hope I make some sense!

Evening all. I'm just back from a carols by candlelight service at church. One of the alpha facilitators gave me a christmas present of Joyce Meyer's Battlefield of the Mind. Has anyone read it before?

Not read it, no, but I just got back from Carol Service. Was really nice. We had a little candle each for some of it, and then they collected the candles in at the end (confusing)... I wanted to keep mine, but was caught by surprise, and just put it in the box...

Ive read it. Its pretty good. One thing I dont like is her use of verses; takes some out of context. and uses the amplified version a lot. the amplified version puts every possibility in the verses, instead of the meaning that is correct as far as historians etc have figured out. most of the principles she teaches are right on, seems obvious once you read it, but isnt something most people stop to think about.
