General Medical Question - Urgent - Wound care ?infected

Okay, 17 days ago i cut over my appendectomy scar and cut away the scar tissue and skin around it. The wound doesn't appear to have healed. I started off cleaning it every day and changing the dressing daily but my skin became red and sore around the dressing (i think maybe a slight allergic reaction) so i stopped changing the dressing so frequently. Now when i change the dressing it is always damp and smells foul(kinda like cheese) if i squeeze the dressing i see a pus like substance come out of it. I see no pus coming out of the wound, although it is slightly warm.
1) Is the wound infected?
2) if it is what self-care can i do at home?
3)How frequently should i be changing the dressings?

*sorry for rambling a bit*

It sounds like it may possibly be infected. Scar tissue doesn't heal as fast as other tissue, so it generaly takes longer to heal, and that gives it a higher risk of infection. It sounds like you've been practicing good at home wound care. You should probably go and get checked out by a doctor and evaluated as to whether or not you may need anitbiotcs.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.
