Yeah, Darren has posted pictures on facebook but the album is set to friends only so unless you're on his friends list, you won't see them, I'm afraid. I'll be uploading pictures onto Facebook this afternoon. We've decided that we don't want to upload them onto RYL so if you want to see them then you'll need to add me.
Labour started at 2.45am and I had her at 1.05pm, so it was quite quick. When I went in, I was 4cm dilated. I had gas and air and had morphine as well because my back was in agonny.
She was 7lb 11.5oz and 50cm long. I'm trying to beast feed but she won't latch on so we're using formula at the moment.
neither of mine would latch on properly. i expressed breastmilk and after she had drunk that gave her a top up of formula. for chloe i was expressing 50% of feeds, for ella 90% both up until 8weeks old.

Congratulations Nic, that's the same weight and length mine was!
I'm sure you'll hear it often but enjoy every moment they grow so fast, Chloe laughed for the first time today. It was such great timing as I was having a really rough day and it cheered me right up :)

Saul was 7 11 too !!! guess its an RYL weight, he was 52cm tho
congratulations nic,
i breast fed for 2 weeks and saul wasn't putting on weight, we were all stressed and exhausted, but the freedom bottle feeding gives us is amazing and he is thriving on it.
my friends who are breast feeding are struggling to do anyting without their babies as the refuse bottles.
a midwife also told one of my breast feeding friends who was upset about having to give formula top ups not to worry, formula was invented to keep mothers sane!!!!
I'm just worried that she's not latching on properly because it can really hurt sometimes but she seems to feed until she's satisfied so I'm assuming that she is latching on okay.
if it hurts its not right, she might be getting milk, but could be putting pressure on the wrong part of the duct, leading to a blocked duct and possible mastitis. have you tried a different position?
ella would only ever latch onto my right boob comfortably and that was in a rugby ball hold, where you hold bubs under your arm with their head poking out under your boob so they latch on differently.
think chloe has chicken pox if she has she's lucky, only 4 spots on her face and ulcers and gingivitis in her mouth, the dr said its a reaction to the first exposure to something - usually chickenpox or coldsores.
now 3 of the spots are round her mouth so dr wanted to wait to see if they turned into coldsores or chickenpox.
the anti-virals she's been given have started them healing really quickly, she needed it coz she ocudln't eat or drink properly. seeing gp tomorrow for followup so will find out!

i dunno, i had a bit of pain during the first couple of weeks of breastfeeding and i got the midwife to check out how she latched on and check me over and everything was fine. but when she latched on sometimes the first minute or so was really really sore. do you use any nipple cream btw? i used lansinoh and it helped a lot! its quite pricey at about a tenner a tube but its gold.
poor chloe, mouth ulcers are so painful. i get them recurrently and they are awful!

a latch can look right, but if it feels sore then it might not be right. midwives only get basic lactation training.
my midwife told me if it felt wrong then there was a problem somewhere, whether it be with the latch, the breast or something with the baby's mouth - tongue tie/thrust etc.

babies learn as well as supply/demand being established. her mouth will also have grown in the first few weeks.
i had a never ending supply of answers as to why it felt wrong/didn't work, took til ella was 8 months for them to finally listen to me and examine her tongue, its tethered too far back giving her tongue thrust.

It only hurts for a small period of time when she first latches on, and then it feels fine. It feels fine as well if she latches off and then latches back on.
No I haven't got nipple cream. My mum's told me to expose them to the air to stop them from cracking.
Hi,
I'm new & don't want to butt in, but when I had my 2nd a midwife gave me a bit of advice... when baby is feeding, if their cheeks fill up then they are latched on and getting milk, if they dip in, they aren't latched on. Hope that helps. I found it an absolute nightmare and gave up far too soon.

Oh.. sorry, but also rubbing breast milk on your nipples is supposed to help them heal too. Cheaper than cream but can't vouch for whether it's as effective!
I've been in two minds today as to whether to stop breast feeding or not. She's latching on properly but there's been a few times where I've been close to tears because its been so sore but I read online that its normal for it to hurt to begin with so I don't know whether to keep trying or not.
